Thanks

Negative Experiences with Transition Bike Lanes

Submitted by stephaniezhang422 on Wed, 06/24/2020 - 4:04pm

Hi, I hope everyone is well and healthy.

Has anyone had any negative experiences with bike lanes that switches from one side to the other side mid-block?

I know that before changes were made, this was the configuration on West 30th street between 8th and 7th Avenues.

Please respond directly to this post or email me @ [email protected] if you have! Thank you.

Insight on fit?

Submitted by mledavis on Wed, 06/24/2020 - 11:05am

Hi clubmates -

Does anyone know if the current offerings of jerseys are more "race fit" or more "club fit"? More euro-sized or american-sized? I want to pick one up with the incentive gear plan, but I won't wear it if it's sloppily over-sized or, obviously, too small. I trust your experience more than I trust the measurement guide posted.

Reliable online shops to get a bike

Submitted by falejandro on Sat, 06/20/2020 - 2:04pm
Hi there! I am trying to help some friends living on the North of NY state to get their bikes. They look for new road bikes, within a budget of $700 each. They will be more entry level bikes. Just found one in a online shop called "The bike connection" in CA. Have you heard of it before? Any online shop recommendation?

"Sold," i.e. offer accepted. KRC is the beneficiary.

I write this here instead of posting this as a reply-comment after that sticky post because, if you're like me, you don't pay much attention to stickies. I want to call attention to it. It's terrifically well written. And important.

Only so long as I'm writing this will I add this incident on my ride today—a disturbing statement where we are in our culture today. As I approached 96th and RSD, a black couple was standing no more than a foot off the curb, in the street. I was going to stop there  to wait for a riding bud. As I rode through the green light, seemingly aimed for them, they pulled back. As they did, I called out, "You're not in my way."

Statement of the New York Cycle Club

Statement of the New York Cycle Club

Along with most Americans, New York Cycle Club members have been shocked and dismayed by the recent and not-so-recent events encompassed by the phrase “Black Lives Matter”. The spotlight shone on structural racism and systemic inequality in America compels all organizations, even cycling clubs, to look at what we do and what we can do better.

To be sure, NYCC has long had an anti-discrimination policy.

Bike Travel Case?

Submitted by PStorey on Wed, 06/17/2020 - 4:24pm

Maybe I'm dreaming, but did we not have a bike case that belonged to the club for the use of members? Does anyone know where it is or who has it? I am asking at this time when no one is traveling because a member has kindly offered the club a case for member use, and I want to know if we already have one.

NEEDED: Borrow/Rent Bicycle Rack

Submitted by etnugent on Wed, 06/17/2020 - 1:43pm

My GF and I are heading upstate for a few days next week (Wed - Sun).

We'd like to take our bikes with us, so we're looking to borrow/rent a trunk mounted rack from someone.

Any info or leads are appreciated.

Thanks! -- Ted
