Indoor trainer

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Sun, 12/05/2010 - 5:24pm

Need some input; Fluid? Magnetic?

I would primarily use it during the winter months when it's impossible for me to ride during the week. Noise level is a concern, as is durability. Ideally, I would use it two to three times a week, from one to three hours a session.

ROME — A speeding car plowed head-on into a group of cyclists in southern Italy on Sunday morning, killing eight of them, officials said. The driver had been smoking marijuana, police said.
Bent, mangled bikes were strewn about the scene, and the sheet-draped corpses dotted the two-lane road near Lamezia Terme, in the Calabrian "toe" of boot-shaped Italy where the accident occurred.
In addition to the eight cyclists killed, four people were injured, said Gianluca Gioia, a spokesman for ANAS, the agency that runs Italy's state roads and highways. Police confirmed the toll.

FS Castelli Volo Partial Jacket New with tags (medium) $ 80 OBO

Submitted by SGeist on Fri, 12/03/2010 - 11:44pm

Selling a white and black Castelli jacket. Size medium. Because it's a Castelli, I need a large. If you usually wear a small (or a medium but have a short torso), this size will be perfect for you (I weigh 160, I could wear it but the back is too short in riding position).
Great for 50-30°F.

You can see a picture here (click on View White/Black/Black)

Maxim Vickers - Former NYCC Member

Submitted by CMailing on Fri, 12/03/2010 - 10:38pm

We learned this evening that Maxim Vickers was killed on Monday, November 29, by a hit-and-run driver while cycling in Old Westbury. Maxim was very active with the NYCC in the '80s and early '90s, less so in the last ten years or more. Back then, he rode frequently with the 'A' riders, and was a regular at NYCC meetings and social events. In recent years, he preferred to ride alone.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, December 5th, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 80-45 Cypress Hill St. in Glendale or Ridgewood, Queens. Meet at the office at the top of the hill for a graveside service. For more information, Daniel Vickers is at Maxim's home in Astoria at 718.728.7179 or Daniel's cell phone is 415.307.6603.

Newish place to eat in Nyack - not an advertisement

Submitted by LWintner on Fri, 12/03/2010 - 8:13pm

A few weeks ago, a few of us ate at a place called True Food at 166 Main St, Nyack, 845-480-5710. It's a cozy place across the street from the bakery about midway down the hill. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, the coffee is good, there's a clean bathroom, and a bike rack in front. It seats about 15-20 people and the owner is very friendly. The food is organic and healthy. There are hot plates, sandwiches, wraps etc.

I have no connection to this place - just enjoyed the food and thought others might want to know about it in case the Spoon gets too crowded.
