brevet training plan?

Submitted by PChin-Hong on Sun, 12/12/2010 - 4:52pm

I'm aiming to complete a brevet series this year, and was wondering if anyone knew of a good training plan that would reduce my risk of injury and ramp me up properly. I've scoured the internet, but either I'm really bad at online searches, or I'm really dense at understanding what I'm reading. Alternatively, anyone know of a good coach to advise on the same? Much thanks.

Chris King rear hub for riding in temps below 25 degrees F

Submitted by RShay on Sun, 12/12/2010 - 9:28am

Today I serviced my Chris King rear hub and thought I'd pass on some learning. I've learned the hard way that Shimano rear hubs freeze at temperatures below 25 degrees F. The grease in the hubs gets firm and prevents the pawls that drive the hub to engage. Result is you spin the cranks and the wheel does Not turn.

I've found that the Chris King rear hub works well down to at least 10 degrees F. The reason is that it has a gear driven drive system called Ringdrive. When I service my hub for the winter I remove the stock grease and put in gear oil. The result is a hub that engages at least down to 10 degrees F without freezing. Below is a video that shows the inner workings of the Chris King hub:

2010 Specialized Allez Comp (54cm): $1,000 or BO

Submitted by TBrennan on Sat, 12/11/2010 - 2:20pm

I'm leaving the country indefinitely, so I'm looking to unload my beautiful 54cm Allez Comp. I paid $1,400, but then added a computer, pedals, etc. I just got off the phone with the shop where I bought it, and they said I spent a good $200 in accessories on top of the bike itself. So at a grand for the total package, I think this is a steal.

Happy to make myself available if you want to see it. Happy to let you take it for a ride. Just email and we'll set something up. And if you want to make a better offer, let me know. Thanks!!

Will send pics on request.

Suggestions Needed for Cue Sheet Software

Submitted by AFrederick on Sat, 12/11/2010 - 1:48am

I'd like to scout out some rides and make proper cue sheets for them. Can anyone recommend software to do this? I'd like to be able to show icons for left and right turns, distance, perhaps even a map. I use a Macintosh. Thanks.

Die Hard Plan

Submitted by HWoods on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 8:24pm

Josh is out with a cold, and I've got a barking hamstring. But we have an awesome plan nonetheless, based on a star substitue leader.

Lisa Mazzola is going to step in and take the faster peeps on a 9w / pmont or nyack jam. This will be swift and fun.

I'll take the more relaxed riders inland to the farm for a donut, home 501/walnut. This will be relaxing and fun.

Either way you will freeze your @$$ off because, after all, this is a DieHard ride and it is winter.

New Jersey/Rockland County Cue Sheets

Not seeing any cue sheets listed under New Jersey/Rockland Country. Am I missing something or do these still need to be categorized on the new website?
