Free Ride for $750?

Submitted by PStorey on Tue, 04/12/2011 - 8:44am

This may appeal to those planning to buy a new bike (or an Assos jacket and shorts).  Spend $750 at a participating bike shop and get one of Glen Goldstein's rides (North Fork Century, e.g.) for free.  See  http://www.nycbicycleshow.com/Bike_Shows/Buy_A_BIke_Get_a_Free_Ride.html http://www.nycbicycleshow.com/Bike_Shows/Buy_A_BIke_Get_a_Free_Ride.html.

VIP entry to 5 boro for charity for FREE!

Submitted by TLipshie on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 4:15pm

A board member with Bronxworks, a charity I post about endlessly, has offered to completely sponsor one rider. This means you could ride for free with a VIP entry and $1000 would go to homeless children. The catch is the last day to register is today, so you have to do this IMMEDIATELY! Here's the link

Watch it before the artist gets a cease-and-desist letter. (Even as legitimate satire.)

Using the Kissena track? -- Fat Cyclist's 100 Miles of Nowhere

Submitted by CPerea on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 3:08pm

Anyone know who to contact for permission to use the velodrome in Kissena park?  I'm coordinating a century ride for the NYC area followers of www.fatcyclist.com who want to ride the "100 Miles of Nowhere" together.  From fatty's website:

"The 100 Miles of Nowhere is a race without a place. It’s an event in which hundreds of people participate . . . all by ourselves. (Or with a friend. Or with 20 friends.)

The Berkshire Memorial Day weekend is less than 2 months away.  If you haven't made your reservations for lodging, do it today.  Where should you stay? A and B rides start in Sheffield, and most C rides start in Great Barrington. Follow this link for lodging in the southern Berkshires: http://southernberkshirechamber.com/berkshire-bed-and-breakfasts.php.

105 vs Ultegra for A-style rides

Submitted by AHolmes on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 7:57pm

I'm looking around for a new bike and was wondering what people thought about the difference between 105 and Ultegra component sets these days. I'm gravitating towards the Cannondale Supersix 3 or 5. Is it really worth $1000 to upgrade to Ultegra, a nicer saddle, somewhat nicer wheels and crank? I'm not interested in racing - just A-SIG style rides.

Thanks, Alec

Please take my NYC cycling survey for MBA class

Submitted by LJacobson on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:49pm

Hi NYCC,

I am taking a Marketing Research class as part of my MBA curriculum at Columbia Business School.  I am on a team conducting market research on riding habits within New York City.  As a NYCC cyclist, this topic is very important to me!  I am trying to reach out to as many NYC cyclists as possible to take this quick (5 min) survey.  In exchange for your responses, we will enter your name into a drawing for a $50 AmEx gift card (this is optional).  The more responses we get the richer our data will be so I would greatly appreciate your time.  All responses are completely confidential.  If you have cyclist friends please feel free to forward the survey on to them as well.
