Berkshires Pictures
I'm very late with my thanks to all who organized the amazing Berkshires weekend trip this year! Special kudos goes out to whoever arranged for the great weather!
I didn't take many pictures this year - trying to lighten my load on the climbs - but here's what I have:
Black Car v. me on a 20 year old hybrid...we all know who wins.
Had a scary accident this morning at 169th and Ft.
Necking on Long Island - the purrrfect century
I always knew my Necking on Long Island ride was about 100 miles. I just carefully mapped it out. From the Central Park Boathouse and back it comes out as exactly 100 miles--to the tenth of a mile. I don't aim for perfection, in fact, try to steer clear of it, but the route just worked out that way. Check it out for yourself:

We ride this Sunday, June 5, starting at the Boathouse at 8:00. Anyone who wants to join us, please sign up through the ride listing:

Closing Central Park to Cars for Trial Period: How to Support
The resolution passed by Community Board 7 to close Central Park to vehicular traffic for a trial period this summer now needs passage by the other Community Boards bordering the Park....Community Boards 5, 8 and 10....before DOT gives its blessing.
The best way at this point to show support ....attend the next Community Board meetings of these districts.
For both CB 5 & CB 8 it is an agenda item at their next general session. It will likely be an agenda item for CB10 at their upcoming Parks and Rec sub-committee meeting on June 8.
If you'd like to speak in favor of the issue, arrive 15 minutes early for signup.
Community Board 5 General Meeting(represents midtown)

Morning Laps in Prospect Park
Anyone interested in weekly early morning B-level laps in Prospect Park? I'm thinking of starting around 6:15am, possibly a couple days each week; I'm open to suggestions for day(s) and times.
New NYCC Member Questions about West Point Rides
A new member of NYCC wants to know how challenging the hills are in and around West Point (from the perspective of a C/B rider) and how different the West Point C-rides are vs. B-rides. I've tried to answer these questions to the best of my ability - pointing out our ride level and speed classification system and that there is traditionally at least one ride for each level on each of the 3 days, but some of you out there can probably give a better answer. Can those of you who have done the West Point C and B routes recently please weigh in and offer your perspective?
Thanks much!
Iconic "Liberty Helmet" Jersey Is Alive
Besides being . . . um . . . one of a kind, our own Richard Rosenthal is well known for his "Liberty Helmet" jersey which served as the official NYCC jersey for many years.
I was at Paragon and was pleasantly surprised to see the iconic jersey (minus NYCC notations) prominently displayed for sale in the second floor cycling section. I know the jersey design is loved by many NYCC members (and non-members) so I thought I’d inform those who may be interested in buying one. I’m told it's also for sale at Piermont Bicycle Connection.
Riding on the Street with Your Kids
How does everyone feel about riding on the street with their kids (rather than having the kids ride on the sidewalk).
Assume for discussion purposes, that the kid is 9-10 years old, rides a road bike, and is a strong (i.e., steady and predictable) rider. Would you limit to the streets necessary to get to the West Side path, Central Park, or maybe would you take this kid up Riverside Drive and over the GWB, into NJ?
Cycling things to sell or give away
I have too much cycling stuff.
Here are things I'm giving away. If there's something that interests you, let me know in next day or two. Whatever is left goes to Recycle-a-Bicycle on Thursday.
Radio Shack outlet adapters, multiple prongs (honestly, not great quality but it's free)
Specialized Mini Tool hand pump
Ultra Battery rechargeable USB Power Pack (unopened package) - for recharging your phone or computer on long rides
Rear-view mirror - installs into handlebar
Assos leg warmers, small
Assos Uma jacket, black, ladies' medium
Assos helmet liner, grey, one size
Assos jersey, black & white, ladies' medium but very fitted
