Free 650c tire for your trainer

Submitted by CWood on Sat, 05/28/2011 - 9:47pm

If you need a 650c tire for your trainer, I have an old Gatorskin for you. It has tread but is too old to be roadworthy IMO.

If no one claims this in one week, it goes in the trash.

(Gatorskins never flat but they are a beach to install.)

I know: the quality of my freebies has declined drastically. But my housekeeping has improved.

Power (watts) - riding solo vs riding in a group

Submitted by QuakePhil on Sat, 05/28/2011 - 10:51am

I have a powertap and I am confuzzled - when riding in a group, I am averaging 250-300 watts, yet when I am riding solo, I am averaging 150-200 watts.  Everythign else is more or less the same - average speed, distance, amount of climbing, perceived effort exerted.  I come home about the same amount of tired.  But when I look at the stats, I see a big discrepancy in average watts, and the only variable is solo/group.

Any pointers/tips?  (I thought it would be the opposite, if anything, since I am drafting behind people)

sign-up sheet

Submitted by DHudes on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 5:12pm

On the auto-generated signup sheet there is a 6th column which is cut off labeled looks like Em. I, for one, would appreciate having people's e-mail address on the signup form or otherwise available. I do not know if the cut-off column is attempting to provide this but ran out of width or its an erroneous repeat of Emergency contact.

Memorial Day Ride on Staten Island

Submitted by MTownsend on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 8:19am

Come join us as we spend part of our Memorial Day holiday punishing ourselves on the hills of Staten Island.

The first half of the trip is relatively benign as we work our way down to Tottenville for some delicious paninis from Towne Deli. Then the fun begins as we hit the hills on the return trip with climbs up Lighthouse, Longview, Douglas and Howard. All in all we've plotted out a metric century of fun on the roads of SI.

Please sign up on line and then e-mail me for a cue sheet if you'd like to join us. We're planning on catching the 7:30AM ferry from the Whitehall terminal in Lower Manhattan with coffee in hand. (That means arriving by 7:15AM.)
