What we refer to as Anthony's Nose, Rt 6/202, from the traffic circle at Peekskill to the Bear Mtn Bridge will be closed 4/5-16, 9am - 3pm.

This means the access on the eastern side of Bear Mtn Bridge will take 9d north. If you are going to Peekskill, the first opportunity will be South Mountain Pass Road. Likewise, returning from the Bear Mtn Circle, then over the bridge, if you are going to Peekskill, you will need to go over South Mountain Pass Road.

The assumption is that both these roads will be crowded.

ARE YOU OUR NEW CONTENT EDITOR???

Submitted by PStorey on Mon, 04/05/2021 - 5:08pm
With too much going on in his life, our Content Editor, Marc Simkin has concluded that something in his life has got to go. Unfortunately, that something is the NYCC Board.

It’s a tremendous loss for all of us. Marc has been a superb Content Editor and a devoted Director for close to three years. A stalwart champion of the Club, his views have always been focused, insightful and worth listening to. We will miss him.

Marc has asked me to try to find his successor in the next two weeks, and he would then be available to train that person in the requirements of the job through the end of April.

Content Editor is a crucial job.

Recent tune up

Submitted by mailaria on Sun, 04/04/2021 - 8:02am

Good morning,

I thought I could solicit some advice.  I just got my road bike back (it's a beginner road bike so not super duper advanced or anything, plus it's at least ten years old) yesterday from a tuneup.  It looks great - got a wash, new tires, awesome.  However, I'm noticing it's a bit noisy, with some almost knocking-like sounds every so often, even when I'm not pedaling.  Plus I favor a good hard gear, and I don't seem to be able to get into it.  Is it too soon to determine yet if there's anything wrong?  Is there something specific I should be checking for, or asking the guy if I bring it back to him?

Please help! missing bike park! Lost thru axel in Fort Lee Historic Park Parking Lot

Submitted by jpereirawebber on Sat, 04/03/2021 - 5:05pm

Hi,

While loading my bike into my car, I absent mindedly lost my Bontrager front thru axel. I was parked in a spot between 107 through 110 in the Fort Lee Historic Park Parking Lot. If anyone is going tomorrow and happens to find it, please let me know. It's a six week special order and I am trying to avoid a 2.5-3 hour round trip drive.

Thank you! If you find it, please call me at (312) 320-2707.

Rudy Project Spring Sale

Submitted by ricrouleur on Wed, 03/31/2021 - 8:12am

There is an extensive thread below discussing prescription lenses.  I have used Rudy inserts for many years and like the flexibility across multiple frame styles.

I wanted to give this sale a new thread to benefit those who might be interested in glasses sans ocular inserts.

Seeking Science Teacher

Submitted by YK on Wed, 03/31/2021 - 1:59am

I have a great idea for a science project.  As posted on Facebook, and reposted here for those who don't use Facebook (who doesnt use Facebook? - the smart people) - I recently learned from Neile that those gray grids at certain intersections are sensors for traffic lights.  See link below for more info.  Shared it in case others didn't know about the sensors.  But after learning how they worked, it piqued my curiosity.  They are electromagnetic loops that are triggered by a disruption (they are not scales).  Cars that cross the lines will cause the disruption, but bikes and in certain instances motorcycles are not sizable enough.  I think the disruption may be driven from steel in the car.

C Coaching Ride Series

Submitted by PHofherr on Tue, 03/30/2021 - 10:20pm

For those of you who wanted to participate in the C SIG either this year or in prior years, we’re offering relaxed and supportive coaching rides every Saturday for six weeks beginning on April 10. If you did graduate the C-SIG but feel you would benefit from additional instruction, we would ask that you wait until the Friday before the ride to sign up to give new riders priority. Please check out our first ride listing on the club website for more information.

We sign up for rides 10 days ahead of the ride.

Submitted by Tomsh on Fri, 03/26/2021 - 3:09pm

Since we sign up for rides 10 days  ahead of the ride, what time of day should we be

looking for the ride to post?  I've checked in the morning sometimes, and the ride is not open, then again in the

evening and the same ride is full.  It's hard to check every ten minutes when you work full time, but is that what it

takes?
