Words you want to hear from a NYC lawmaker.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 04/23/2021 - 7:04am

"For every bike that runs a red light, 10 cars run a red light." -Ben Kallos, Upper Eastside member of NYC Council.

Kallos spoke in support of making the 61st St. and 62nd St. bike lanes permanent as he opposed complaints by anti-cyclists. And good news: CB8 did finally vote to make those crosstown bike lanes permanent. Thank you yet again, Hindy Schacter, this time enduring a three hour meeting. The vote? 34-9.

fitter suggested that i use one, and i figured it might be faster/easier to buy/borrow from someone in the city who has one that they're not using

A question for the techies about wheels

Submitted by JAzelvandre on Wed, 04/21/2021 - 3:09pm

I've noticed that many of the fancier road bike wheels make quite a bit of noise when coasting, and, it seems a wide variety of noises.  Even the stock wheels on my Trek Domane surprised me by the sounds they made compared to my old hybrid.

I have often wondered, and now feel compelled to ask:

Is there a purpose for this noise, and can one judge the quality (or price) of wheel by the sound it makes?

Market ride this Saturday

Submitted by RHJ321 on Tue, 04/20/2021 - 1:13pm

I'll be riding from the UWS to the Market Cafe this Saturday (most Saturdays). This Saturday leaving at 10am (bc of late work)

Any interest in joining?

For pacing purposes the whole ride comes to about 15-17mph average? On the flats I'd be comfortable doing 19? But a little slower is fine too.

Jim Finder, our amazing Berkshire weekend planner, could use a volunteer to help him update the list of local services. Would you be willing to help out?

Today, Sunday, I was riding toward the GW via 162nd and I passed a young lady who was also riding to the bridge. When I realized that she remained close to my wheel I pointed out some pot holes, for which she thanked me. For as long as she stayed close enough to my wheel for it to matter I signaled pedestrians, cars, more potholes the same way I appreciate others doing for me.

After about a mile she was still close behind me and I continued to point out potential hazards. Then she asked: Are you a member of the New York Cycling Club? I replied that  I am a member and inquired about why she was asking. She said  because of the way I was so politely pointing out all of the potential hazards she assumed that I must be a member.

Triple Bypass Ride - Colorado

Submitted by Kmresman on Sat, 04/17/2021 - 9:14am

Hi there,

I just signed up for the Triple Bypass Ride in Colorado this July. Lots of climbing: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34681844

I have never done such a mountainous ride and I wondered if anyone could recommend a training schedule that they found especially good.

Thanks,

Kristen
