Good shop for cleaning and relubing a mint 90s era Trek 750

Submitted by MFulton on Thu, 03/04/2021 - 5:47pm

Hi all,

I am looking for a shop in Manhattan (ideally) that can do a straightforward recable, repack, drive train cleaning, and tune up of a '90/'91 all original Trek 750 that I recently bought. The bike has been stored in a garage for 30 years, and looks like it maybe has 2 miles on it. It has Suntour X-Press trigger shifters that work well, but could use some clean up and relubing of the internals.

I could probably do the work myself (obviously not as well as a real mechanic could), but I don't have the time right now, and I also don't have the space nor facilities to handle what will be a somewhat messy job.

Thanks for any advice!

Orthopedic (hip) surgeon in Brooklyn

Submitted by mpersson on Mon, 03/01/2021 - 1:59pm

hi all,

I broke my hip last week in Austin, got some screws in, and now I am looking for an orthopedic surgeon in Brooklyn who knows what to do next. I saw some old posts with recommendations for NYCC-member dr. Claudette Lajam (in Manhattan), who sounds great, but if there's someone closer that would be even better.

Thanks a lot

Michael

Tubeless tires and Sealant

Submitted by RRGilbert on Tue, 02/23/2021 - 12:10am

Does anyone have an issue with their sealant leaking when they store their bikes?  I want to switch to tubeless but I usually leave my bike in my living room and I'm afraid a leaky tire will do a job to my furniture and rug.  Any comments or pointers?

Ride ideas?

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Sun, 02/21/2021 - 8:44pm

Looking for some ride ideas. . . . where better to look than here?

I have a new cycling bud – he and I are thinking about a multi day ride this coming summer – an ‘A’ ride.  Probably want to drive to the start – want to take our bikes.  We’ve got quite a bit of range; maybe not as far as the Rockies, but. . . . . . . .  Road, not gravel.  Absolutely don’t mind an organized group ride.  As a matter of fact, might even prefer it – we want to ride, not so interested in packing, trekking, carrying, lugging.   4, 5, 600 miles . . . . a week or so.

Got any ideas?

Much appreciated.

Cervelo Caledonia vs Trek Domane SLR

Submitted by Rami on Wed, 02/17/2021 - 1:32pm

 Hi,

I'm in the market for a new bike. I had my eye on a Domane SLR, but they guy at the shop asked me to consider the Cervelo Caledonia. It's lighter and about $1500 chepear for almost the same components.

Would love to know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Podiatrist recos for hot foot

Submitted by joemull on Mon, 02/15/2021 - 7:29pm

Hi All,

I'm new to the group so thanks in advance for providing this message board and helping me out. Looking forward to some new friends and maybe old acquaintences I've already seen out.

I've been getting really intense "hot foot" on my big toe and my chiro said if I don't get it fixed soon there's a risk of cellulitis (an internal infection.)  Does anyone recommend a good podiatrist? It looks like this was asked around ten years ago and some mentioned Rock Positano. Funny enough last week so did my chriropractor who adjusted my talus, but he said Rock probably doesn't take insurance.

Cantilever pad toe-in question

Submitted by isaacb on Fri, 02/12/2021 - 10:26am

Hi:My noisy cantilever brakes (unthreaded posts) spook small children. Bike shop has replaced the pads and urged me to clean & polish the rim, which I've done and it doesn't matter. A lot of how-tos recommend angling the pads (toe-in) some even illustrating using spacers (e.g., dimes) to help with the alignment. But my pads actually come with little raised nibs where I'd be leaving the gap (see here for illustration.)

Expert Physical Therapist

Submitted by storymann on Tue, 02/09/2021 - 3:40pm

Unfortunately, things are sometimes more dangerous off the bike than on it.

I suffered a fracture of my C-7 vertebrae in a climbing accident which required surgery and I am now looking for PT that has good knowledge about such injuries.

If anyone knows of that person, please let me know

Thanks in advance
