Rail trail overgrown in Grandview

Submitted by isaacb on Tue, 06/08/2021 - 10:23am

Grandview's section of the Esposito/Erie rail trail seemed especially overgrown this past Saturday. In places, you will literally get brushed by vegetation from both sides. In others, cyclists and walkers get uncomfortably close. Is this just a fluke, or is bike-hostile Grandview deliberately making their section of trail awkward? Is there anything than can be done?

May 11 letter to PIPC executive director Joshua Laird

Dear Director Laird:

I Was Attacked Saturday 6/5 On My Way To Lead STS B-18 Whippoorwill Ride

Submitted by YoniKochavi on Mon, 06/07/2021 - 5:48pm

I hesitate to write this, but have decided to post this in the same vein as one would tell club members about a downed tree on River Road.

Around 7:45 am I was riding east along 125th street towards the Lexington Avenue & 125th street stop for the #4 train.

Around Madison, I saw about 75 yards ahead, a man walking in the street. As I usually do, I slowed down and gently waived my right hand just to be friendly and to let him know that I saw him and wouldn't inadvertantly ride into him.

The man raised his forearm in what I assumed was the manner in which many of us greet each other with a gente elbow bump especially during the covid pandemic. I slowed down even more and made a fist at the end of my bent right arm close to my body to return the greeting.

Missing ROBOs in central park, is there any thoughts on continuing again by the leaders that organized?

Charlotte Place in Englewood Cliffs

Submitted by isaacb on Sun, 06/06/2021 - 5:58pm

I'm working on some routes and looking for an alternative to the busy left from Hudson Terrace to Palisade (with all the PIP ramp traffic.)

"On paper", Charlotte Place (just north of the new LG HQ) goes west, turns into Summit Street, then crosses Palisade with a signal.

Is there some double-secret reason why club rides don't use this less stressful looking routing?

Thanks.

Tipping at Cafe Rx?

Submitted by isaacb on Fri, 06/04/2021 - 11:32am

When I bring a group through a rest stop, I leave a significant tip in the jar. Demarest Dunkin makes it easy with a visible jar. Cafe Rx seems to be really good to cyclists, though many use the restroom without purchase. I have not noticed a tip jar at Rx. Is it tacky to leave a bill on the counter?

Queens toodlers?

Submitted by knitty on Fri, 06/04/2021 - 10:23am

Anyone interested in exploring Eastern Queens in the toodling manner?

Let me know if you’d like to meet in Flushing to meander Kissena corridor and low-traffic side streets on the way to either Flushing Meadow or Fort Totten, with stops for ice latte & banh mi, pastry, perhaps some birdwatching, at a sub C-ride (6-10 mph) pace and distance (10-15 miles). Thanks!

Putnam Rail Trail

Submitted by Bethmanhattan@g... on Thu, 06/03/2021 - 9:31pm

Hi there,

Wanted to do the Putnam rail trail from Brewster
to Van Cortland, but heard that there may be construction on the South or North County Rail trail.  Can you tell me if there is any problem with either of these trails?  Thanks for your feedback on this.
