New Cycling Studio on UWS

Submitted by FLeffel on Tue, 02/28/2012 - 5:54pm

My nephew was the architect on a very cool new cycling studio on the UWS and they're trying to spread the word to the cycling community about the place.   Pedal NYC.  33 West End Ave, at 61st Street.

They have the Livestrong bikes by Matrix and 30 trainers for those that want to bring in their own bikes.  They also have a second room for TRX suspension training, core classes, yoga and Pilates to compliment cycling training.  The website is pedalnyc.com

Right now, they're running a special of 3 classes for $45. http://www.livingsocial.com/cities/865-nyc-upper-west-side/deals/248842-...

Sadie Hawkins Day A paced laps Wed morning

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Tue, 02/28/2012 - 1:06pm

Sounds like the weather man is giving us a window of opportunity to ride tomorrow morning - the rain is not supposed to start till  after 9, 10:00 AM.  If the roads are dry at 5:30 AM, I’ll be at Tavern on the Green at 6:00 AM  to meet whoever wants to do some laps.  Maybe we'll see you there.

Tomorrow's Sadie Hawkins day - girls lead.

Tell your friends.

Proposal to Share the Park Road

Submitted by RTorok on Tue, 02/28/2012 - 9:54am

Proposal out there to limit car traffic in Prospect Park to one lane.  I have long been a semi-vocal advocate of this approach in CP and hope it makes its way over the river.   Much safer for peds, runners, cyclists.  Also reducing cars to one lane will necessarily reduce their speed (as evidenced by average car speed reduction when dedicated bike lanes were introduced on Columbus Ave).

Of course, there will be those cyclists who will be critical of this proposal and simply say that cars should be eliminated from the park.   I agree, but realistically, it takes a measured approach and this step goes a long way.

Big thumbs up!

looking for a couple B-17ish ride buddies

Submitted by LPress on Mon, 02/27/2012 - 9:26pm

I'm working evenings and weekends for the next four weeks and would love to find some B-17ish ride partners for not so long rides during the week (30-40 mile range) to River Road, Piermont, etc. Starting around 9:30 or 10 and being back around 2.

Splashback against NYPD's lack of followup on cyclist death(s).

NYCC Hiking/Snowshoeing SIG - Class of '12

Submitted by [email protected] on Mon, 02/27/2012 - 3:55pm

The graduation hike of 2012 took 17 NYCCers from the old Red Apple Rest up the Nurian trail to Green Pond Mountain through Valley of the Boulders and onto Black Rock lookout with it's 360° view. 10 sensational miles for the season's finale. Thank you Ken and Marilyn.
