Ludicrous analogy of the day

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 04/22/2022 - 5:57pm

If you don't want to see that ride option go away, sign up before around noon tomorrow 4/23. If I don't see 2-3 signups by then I will withdraw the listing and do something else. Thanks!

I wonder why there aren't more ride signups in general the whole weekend, honestly, especially with how nice the forecast is looking...

We need more C rides

Submitted by jzisfein on Fri, 04/22/2022 - 10:19am

We're shortchanging our members who prefer C rides. There is only one posted C ride tomorrow Saturday and that one has a waiting list. There are no C rides this Sunday, only A and B rides, and none slower than 18 mph.

I know it's still SIG season but those rides are on Saturdays. Is it too late for one of you C leaders to post a Sunday ride?

Road/Gravel Bike Rental

Submitted by tbewley on Wed, 04/20/2022 - 3:43pm

I will be traveling to NYC for a week long visit and would be interested in renting a road or gravel bike for a day or 2 while there, to ride in Central Park.   I'm an avid cyclist in Arkansas and ride a Specialized Diverge Comp.

Any suggestions for somewhere to rent something similar?

Many Thanks!

Talent Show - Positive Covid 19

Submitted by SYoung on Wed, 04/20/2022 - 8:57am

First of all - I want to say what a fun time I had the Talent Show - it was nice seeing old friends display great talent. And it was nice being out and about--

Unfortunately - I had positive Covid test on Monday. I'm doing OK - like a really bad chest cold. I was sitting at bar furthest away from stage - but know I said hello to a lot of folks.

Take Care -

Stacy

Cycling in Ireland

Submitted by nepstein on Tue, 04/19/2022 - 5:23pm

Hi - I'm posting on behalf of my daughter (23) who is planning a cycling trip in Ireland in June with a friend.

Can any members recommend a region, or part of the country, that would be relatively manageable for a biker who mostly does shorter trips in town?  She's in good shape, and can handle a road bike, multi-gear shifting, etc.

She's looking to base herself in a couple of locations, staying in BnBs.  She'll do ~40 miles/day of cycling to explore each area.

She'll need a couple of rentals to pull this off.  Are there any rental outfits, or tour operators that are worth looking up?

Thanks!

Fitting long rides and morning laps into a running training plan

Submitted by Alice V Easton on Mon, 04/18/2022 - 12:44pm

I’m following a running training plan but struggling to figure out how to fit Saturday long rides into it. Does anyone have a good triathlon/duathlon training calendar or philosophy that they follow? When I’m only running (not also biking) I usually try to fit in a speedwork day and a long run each week, and then just run easy miles for the rest of the days with a goal of somewhat consistently building mileage up until it’s time to taper for a race. But I don’t know how to think about which part of my running schedule is being replaced by a full-day weekend bike ride or morning laps. Thanks!

Kudos to Clarence Eckerson, who many of us know from the NYC cycling community.  He's been awarded a lifetime achievement award on World Bicycling Day 2022 for his work documenting and advocatin the cyclling and carless cycling.

Here's the link to the Streetsblog article where I picked up on it.
