An American Pro Cyclist Star Is Born

Submitted by RSchmon on Thu, 04/14/2022 - 7:35am

So great to see American teenager Magnus Sheffield, riding for Ineos, 19, from Pittsford New York winning Wednesday's spring semi-classic Brabantse Pijl.  Highligts here:    https://youtu.be/OolJU4pgSVE

moped going wrong way hits a cyclist in Central Park

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 9:36am

Saw this on FB. The man in this photo was riding a moped the wrong way and hit a cyclist in CP. This is obviously the downhill by the pool. Hope the cyclist and his bike are ok. Be careful out there.

I'm generally opposed to capital punishment, however...

...I think I'm willing to make an exception after riding in a very crowded CP Tuesday late afternoon.

2 laps. 47 wannabe racers (no, no, not as a pack) bringing into the park with them that one characteristic that seems special to New Yorkers: inconsideration for others. 47 wannabe racers tearing through red lights while pedestrians were crossing or waiting to cross on their green. Gosh, how I respect their devil-may-care, screw-you, super-assertive, hyper-masculinity. Enforcement? Nah, nary a cop seen. Not that a cop would have enforced had there been one.

Bike closet

Submitted by Alanli01 on Mon, 04/11/2022 - 11:33pm

I am building a closet to hold two bikes. One road bike and one hybrid bike. I wonder what is the minimum closet dimension I will need?  Current size in my mind is 26 inches width, 4 feet length and 8 feet high. Will that fit two bikes?

Continental tires - Grand Prix 5000 vs. Gatorskins ?

Submitted by SRodetis on Sun, 04/10/2022 - 11:15am

Need to replace existing road bike tires.  Have long been a fan and user of Conti 4000s, then their replacement 5000. With all the garbagio on roads in NYC, and having repaired 2 flats on a ride yesterday, I'm thinking 'bout Conti Gatorskins.

I'd be using 700x25 clinchers, weight is about the same (the Gatorskins are about 15 grams heavier than the 5000, for a whopping 5% diff, not that I'd notice).  And I'm sure there's more "road feel" with the 5000s.

Any comments or suggestion on either?

Thank you!

Wet roads and forecasts of intermittent rain have forced a postponement to tomorrow.

The chance of sustained rain duirng the day is too high. We're postponing to Sunday.

Submitted by FLeffel on Fri, 04/08/2022 - 4:38pm

Once again, there are conflicting weather forecasts for tomorrow.   So we'll wait a little longer to see if things change.  We will make the call --- one way or the other -- and post here by 10:30 PM tonight.
