Haven Ave. in Washington Heights
I hadn't been across the GW since the spring and was surprised to have my return ride down Haven Ave. cut short by a block by a newly pedestrianized area south of 169th. If you're just turning right on Fort Washington, it's not a big deal, but I go across on 168th so had to make a left turn from Fort Washington at this high-traffic intersection. Next time I'll turn off Haven onto 170th, though in the past the bike lane on that street over by Edgecombe has been completely blocked by NYPD vehicles.
Was glad to see progress with the stanchions for the ramp at the bridge.
Gravel or mountain bike camp
Can anyone recommend a bike camp to enhance skill set on dirt, sand, corrugation, etc. Leaving for a trip in January that will be approximately 35% off road. Preference for east coast. Thanks in advance.
Compliments to Leora
And everybody else involved in the volunteer incentive program.
The personal note that came with the jersey I just picked up is a really nice touch. Well done, and thank you.

Lange's Deli of Scarsdale is closed
This news is sad. Lange's has been a great pit stop in Scarsdale for as long as I can remember.
Here are the details: http://www.scarsdale10583.com/the-goods/7609-lange-s-deli-to-close-after-47-years-in-scarsdale
More newspaper B.S. about the killing of a cyclist on NYC streets
Our FB page has a story of a 17 year old Staten Islander killed while riding his bike.
Helmet replacement
What is the life expectancy of a helmet that has not been involved in a crash? Does it make a difference if helmets are used on a rotating basis? Thank you in advance.

Building Back Up Post Surgery (Training Rides)
Hi All,
I am almost two years post ankle surgery, and am looking to get back to my 70/80+ mile rides (+ acclimated to the heat). Anyone in a similar situation or looking to build to longer rides to start?
I am able to do a few rides from now until August 9th and then again after Labor Day.
Also my riding profile also still says riding style: A, at this point I would classify myself as a C.
Cheers,
K
New restrictions on reserving group bike passage in August
I've just been informed that more infrastructure work on the Hudson line will once again restrict passage above Croton Harmon.
Thus we cannot reserve trains between August 10th and 25th on the Hudson line above Croton Harmon.
Metro North hopes to have work completed by the latter date.
