NYCC Gear Update

Submitted by leorar on Tue, 08/06/2019 - 9:59pm
I've been getting a lot of questions about gear availability, so I wanted to provide a quick update: Members who have ordered free gear via our volunteer incentives program should pick up their gear at Bike Habitat between now and August 8th. Please thank the Bike Habitat staff for handling distribution, which they do as a favor to us. Members who purchased gear online should know that because we mostly manufacture gear to order, there can be a delay between order placement and receipts. We expect most members who have already placed their orders to receive their gear this month. Looking forward to sporting new NYCC gear with all of you!

Summons in Piermont

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Mon, 08/05/2019 - 11:00am

Oh, no!  On my ride this past Sunday we were stopped in Piermont and one of our group was given a summons for riding “two abreast”.  I was at the front and didn’t see the infraction, or how serious the infraction was, or even if there was an infraction.  After talking with the guy who got the summons, I’m inclined to think there was no infraction and he was just avoiding some bad road near the edge.  Bah, humbug.  Anyways, he was cool as can be, didn’t say a word, took the ticket.  He looked at me and said, “Arguing with a Cop is no win”.   Teach me how you do that.  Big compliments for his composure.

Does anybody have any knowledge of the status of the paving of the trail.  The last I heard they were actually supposed to start in August.

Is this NYCC's legitimate Facebook group? Who moderates it?

Submitted by isaacb on Sun, 08/04/2019 - 7:26pm

Hi:

There's a group on Facebook "New York Cycle Club Members Group" https://www.facebook.com/groups/NYcycleclub/. It's a "closed" group. I'm a member and do see familiar names there. Is this legitimately NYCC's? If yes, who manages the membership and/or moderates the posts and comments?

Thanks.

Replacing screw-type heel pads on SIDI shoes

Submitted by JFinder on Fri, 08/02/2019 - 11:32am

Here's a great discussion on how to change your SIDI heel pad if the screw is so worn that you can't unscrew it.

http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=70328

Basically, just use All The Tools to destroy what's left of the heel pad, which gives access to the screw so you can get at it with pliers.

Next time, I won't let the heel pad get so worn down.

Summer Streets 2019 ?

Submitted by knitty on Fri, 08/02/2019 - 9:54am

Are there any plans to meet at Summer Streets or ride as a group? Tomorrow if the rain forecast is wrong, I’m thinking of bringing my bike in via ferry from Queens to 34th Street. I’m a pre-C newbie. Thanks.
