Received 10:11PM. note that the Palisades Interstate Park website does not get frequent updates and their Twitter account is the best way to find out about last minute changes and closures. This closure in not currently showing on the website.

A great, great quote about bicycles. It's a new one.

(Yes, David Brooks, a conservative. I'm pleased to be known as one unregenerate lefty-rad-pinko-socialist-progressive who reads conservatives and thinks about and considers conservative thought.)

Seeking Routing Advice: Cold Spring -> Bear Mtn -> Newburgh -> Beacon

Submitted by mhsimkin on Tue, 07/30/2019 - 3:56pm

Hi.

I'm trying to come up with a route that can be done by strong C riders at a minimum.  I started with the route that Carol W. put together from Cold Spring to Bear Mountain and then back to the GWB on the west side of the river.

However, I want to head north to Newburgh and then Beacon to catch the train back south.

Here is what I've initially come up with: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30704864

LIE service road - reasonable early-morning route choice?

Submitted by MHiller on Mon, 07/29/2019 - 7:45am

I've used the LIE service road to go from Alley Pond Park eastward into Suffolk County before. Is it also a reasonable choice from, say, Utopia Parkway east to Alley Pond? Or even from Flushing Main Street eastward? This'd be quite early (around 7-7:30 AM on a Saturday). Thanks!

Thanks to Jennifer, John and the ride leaders.

Lovely outing to Rye.  Great food.  Smoothly handled.  Perfect summer day.

Getting to Albany with a bike via public transportation

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Sun, 07/28/2019 - 7:27am

Does anyone have any suggestions / experience with taking their bike to Albany by public transportation without having to box a bike? The options I have seen (Amtrak, various bus companies) require one to box their bikes. Maybe the bus companies despite requiring the boxing of bikes on their sites do not enforce this but was wondering if anyone has first hand experience. Unfortunately Bolt Bus doesn’t go there as they allow people to simply throw their bikes in the bus’ belly. I know taking Metro North to Poughkeepsie or Wassaic is an option but those stations are about 72 miles from Albany.
