Submitted by BikeSherpa on Fri, 01/21/2011 - 11:42am

While you’re at the Feb meeting learning about the Sig, stop by and hear about BikeSherpa, a new concept in bike tours - www.bikesherpa.com.

I’m a long time NYCC member, an A Sig graduate and A19 Sig leader. Last year, I moved from NYC to Europe to launch BikeSherpa.

Bike Parking Garage

Submitted by bensimonphoto on Wed, 01/19/2011 - 5:19pm

Hi All,
I'm looking for car parking garages in Manhattan that allow bike parking. Or if there are any garages that only have bike parking, that would work too. Resources seem limited so any info you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Aha! At last! A way cyclists can blow the whistle on bad drivers!

In researching whether or not points can be assessed against a driver's license in NJ, for a thread some months ago, I contacted a NJ law firm specializing in defending drivers. I'm now on their mailing list in spite of my best efforts to be removed from it. But I'm glad to have just received this note from that law firm:
____

In the future, not only could your driving record and accident rate affect your insurance costs, but other motorists, cyclists, and even pedestrians armed with smart-phones could as well.

Power Meter Question for a friend

Submitted by Rmarcus on Wed, 01/19/2011 - 2:14pm

A friend of mine looks like he wants to improve his cycling with the goal to eventually race. He has is currently talking with one coach who urged him to get a Power Meter.

Okay, he didn't give me too much beyond that except a certain bike shop said that he should get either a Power meter hub set-up such as Power Tap or a power meter crank set-up.

My question is:
a) Are there 2 ways to gauge power? In other words a crank or rear wheel set-up?
b) Which brands would be the more reliable choicese?
c) Wired or wireless?
d) Why does one even need a power meter if there are gizmos that calculated your HR, Cadence and effort for much less?

Finally, any good places to purchase one new or used ( other than Ebay)?

Thanks

Robert "No it's not for me" Marcus
