Update on Re-Opening of 9W Market
At Bunbury’s yesterday afternoon, I randomly ran into one of the new owners of the market store on 9W between the state line and Piermont—just beyond the Sneden’s Landing intersection going north. I was happily surprised to hear the new owners will be opening the new store within two weeks, and they have fixed the sewage issues that led to the prior owners closing and then selling the store. Her name is Agatha, and her husband, who was not there, is Greek—something I could relate to as my dear wife is also Greek! So the fare will have a Mediterranean slant.
Petition distribution
We need to get the petitions out to as broad an audience as possible. Standing in Central Park in non-freezing weather is certainly a useful approach but it isn't necessarily the exclusive paper approach. An additional approach is to get the petitions into as many bike shops as possible city-wide. Other places are good too please don't let the notion of bike shop you from convincing your local coffee bar from having them out.
Let's use this this thread to coordinate distribution to avoid duplication of effort.
I don't have any clipboards I will try to get one. I will put a stack of petitions out at Masterbike on W72nd. I can do TOGA UWS tonight unless someone else wants to get them.
Other shops I can think of that need (if you have done or will do, please comment accordingly):

Friday's CP Petition Ride--Weather Cancellation.
25 degrees at 7am. There won't be many riders, and standing out there for an hour or hour and a half with petitions will be miserable. Let's postpone the launch of this drive until next friday and hope for better conditions. See you then, and thanks to everyone who signed on.
Anyone who hasn't signed the online petition, go do it now!

Bike License Plates in New York and New Jersey?
The state legislatures in both New York and New Jersey are considering bills that would require all bicycles to be registered and display a license plate.
Two wheels, one really long downhill, watch in full screen for best effect!

Not sure if it's a mountain bike but worth watching (in full screen).

thursday bait and switch - freezing
there's a very, very good chance that the game is off thursday morning due to freezing temps. 7am 20 degrees feels like 8. feels like i'd rather stay in bed.
stay tuned in case a warm front swings in tonight, but 99.99% chance the game is off.
Early monring tickets in Central Park?
Hear anything about tickets in Central Park early in the morning - particularly before 7:00 AM?
NY State cycling laws?
I had a run-in with a very aggressive driver this morning on my commute to work. Now that I'm thinking clearly again, I realize it would have been great if I'd had a copy of NY State's cycling laws on me. You know, the bit about "share the road" and that we have the right to ride so many feet away from a parked car EVEN if there isn't a bike lane. Oh also that bit about how anyone on the road who isn't in a car actually has the RIGHT OF WAY - even if there's no bike lane and even if you (as the driver) think they are wrong. Anybody got a quick link?
