Sunday 3/20 "Spring Begins" A18 ride
Just an fyi, tomorrow's "Spring Begins" ride will be going to Pearl River, not Nyack or Piermont as the ride description states.
It'll still be ~40-50 miles, and it'll still be a chill, relaxed A18 pace -- this is a recovery ride, after all -- but if you had your heart set on visiting Nyack or Piermont tomorrow I'm afraid you may be disappointed.
Or maybe not...
Are you required to have your license while riding?
I'm pretty shocked by this new ticketing campaign against cyclists in the Park and thus far have not run into any trouble. However, I can't find any regulation or law (I'm a lawyer) requiring a cyclist to carry a license - so if a cop tells you stop in the Park, what can they do if you don't have a license? Are they really going to impound your bike?
Which brings me to a second point, how are cops pulling people over? Are they chasing bikes in vehicles or their little golf cart things? Can't the cyclist just keep riding and get away from the fat cop?
What's the Best Route Back to Manhattan After the Gimbels Ride?
Would like to ride back tomorrow if feasible. Any sugesseted routes?
Thanks.
650c vs. 700c wheels?
Hi,
I am getting my first custom road bike, and am trying to decide whether to get 650c or 700c wheels. Does anyone have any experience or advice about the pros and cons of each that would be helpful? I am 5' 1" tall.
Thanks!

Bike and Cook in Italy with Award Winning Chef Susan Regis
We are looking for bikers and foodies who want to join us in Italy from June 26-July 2,2011 for a week long trip in the Veneto region of Italy. We have James Beard awarding wining Chef Susan Regis of Upstairs on the Square in Cambridge, MA joining us. We support all levels of bikers, with different daily route options. We very likely will have a Boston based TV station covering the trip on site, riding along with us during the week. Because of this possibility, we are offering the trip at cost, $3600 per person, all inclusive (accommodations, bike rental, ground transport, all dinners but 1, all cooking events, wine tastings, gratuities, taxes, etc.) except for airfare. Central Park Laps -- Please advise
OK, so I have been only half paying attention to everything that has been going on in CP with lights, tickets, cops, etc. I'm about to head out this weekend for my first riding of the season and I want to do some CP laps. I understand that much of this has already been discussed on here but can someone please answer these questions so I know what to expect:
1) Are the tickets only for the hours that traffic is closed in the park? In other words if I do laps in CP during the times that it is closed to cars do I still have to stop at the red lights?

NBC News & Bicycling Magazine: "The Bicycle Wars" in New York City
http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/go-healthy-ny/Cycling-a-Public-Safety-Is...
NBC News Excerpt citing Bicycling magazine's Bob Mionske:
"And when it comes to the most serious consequence of breaking traffic laws -- deaths -- cyclists, Mionske argues, bear hardly any responsibility. While 18 of the 269 people killed in crashes in New York City last year were cyclists, no figure could be provided on how many of the total deaths could actually be blamed on cyclists because they were "so insignificant a factor."
