Using the Kissena track? -- Fat Cyclist's 100 Miles of Nowhere

Submitted by CPerea on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 3:08pm

Anyone know who to contact for permission to use the velodrome in Kissena park?  I'm coordinating a century ride for the NYC area followers of www.fatcyclist.com who want to ride the "100 Miles of Nowhere" together.  From fatty's website:

"The 100 Miles of Nowhere is a race without a place. It’s an event in which hundreds of people participate . . . all by ourselves. (Or with a friend. Or with 20 friends.)

The Berkshire Memorial Day weekend is less than 2 months away.  If you haven't made your reservations for lodging, do it today.  Where should you stay? A and B rides start in Sheffield, and most C rides start in Great Barrington. Follow this link for lodging in the southern Berkshires: http://southernberkshirechamber.com/berkshire-bed-and-breakfasts.php.

105 vs Ultegra for A-style rides

Submitted by AHolmes on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 7:57pm

I'm looking around for a new bike and was wondering what people thought about the difference between 105 and Ultegra component sets these days. I'm gravitating towards the Cannondale Supersix 3 or 5. Is it really worth $1000 to upgrade to Ultegra, a nicer saddle, somewhat nicer wheels and crank? I'm not interested in racing - just A-SIG style rides.

Thanks, Alec

Please take my NYC cycling survey for MBA class

Submitted by LJacobson on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:49pm

Hi NYCC,

I am taking a Marketing Research class as part of my MBA curriculum at Columbia Business School.  I am on a team conducting market research on riding habits within New York City.  As a NYCC cyclist, this topic is very important to me!  I am trying to reach out to as many NYC cyclists as possible to take this quick (5 min) survey.  In exchange for your responses, we will enter your name into a drawing for a $50 AmEx gift card (this is optional).  The more responses we get the richer our data will be so I would greatly appreciate your time.  All responses are completely confidential.  If you have cyclist friends please feel free to forward the survey on to them as well.

Monday Nyack Hookey Ride

Submitted by MGewirtz on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:02pm

If the weather holds as forecast, I am thinking of doing a ride up to Nyack on Monday.  I like to do a B17-18 ride with some climbing thrown in on the way up or back.  If anyone wants to go I would leave from Eleanor Roosevelt Memorial at about 9:30--time, route and speed can be adjusted to be agreeable with companions.  If anyone responds on Board or to email we can make definite arrangements.  Otherwise I may not keep to the above schedule.  Michael Gewirtz

Lancaster trip for July

Submitted by DHudes on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 12:27am

Last year, a small group and I went out to Lancaster County by bike from Philadelphia. Other than getting soaked in the rain, we had a great time. I'm up for doing it again this year but in July not August, specifically July 24-27th. Looking at a cost of $350/person. Interested? Contact me.

Catskills trip?

Submitted by DHudes on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 12:13am

Anyone intrested in a multi-night, Sunday - Tuesday, trip to Catskills? Staying over at a hotel in Fleischmanns NY from whence we can ride to Big Indian etc.

Options include taking Metro North to Poughkeepsie and riding to the hotel or possibly renting  a van and driviing up. Assuming we go by train and everyone pays their own rail fare, the price should come out around $365/person double occupancy or $420 single occupancy.
