A Most Adventurous Cycling Event

Submitted by sloop on Sun, 04/17/2011 - 8:17pm

Ok New York. It's time to get out of your Boroughs to get a taste of the great outdoors. No taxi cabs, no delivery vehicles, and most of all no baby stollers or tickets in Central Park.

The Yellowstone CycleFest takes placeJuly 23-30 in West Yellowstone, Montana. This week-long cycling adventure is for anyone who enjoys an action packed vacation and the chance to get ‘up close and personal’ with one of the most unique ecosystems in North America.  In addition to daily road biking, the festival will offer a host of exciting activities including white water rafting, mountain biking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, and America’s hottest new sport, water cycling.

Bike Component Theft in Downtown Brooklyn

Submitted by JohnHuntington on Sun, 04/17/2011 - 9:07am

I rode my bike to work on Friday, the first time all year, and was rewarded with getting my handlbars, brake levers, disc brake calipers, etc all stolen:

Stolen bike

This is on Jay street, with constant foot, motor and bike traffic.  I parked on this block for years with no problem when my work had a bike rack; now the buildings got a construction barrier and they got me right away.

Talking to the Police and some of my colleagues, it seems this is a big problem in the area.  They didn't cut my lock, but they skillfully disassembled the stuff they wanted.  My colleague got his headset and bottom bracket stolen.

B SIG Oyster Bay ride is ON

Submitted by WWright on Sun, 04/17/2011 - 6:16am

Today's B SIG ride to Oyster Bay is on.  The rain has stopped and the National Weather Service has lifted its wind advisory.  It will still be breezy, but not as bad as was predicted yesterday evening.

Please remember the start time and location:

9:00 from the Statue of Civic Virtue

B-SIG - are we or aren't we?

Submitted by Akennan on Sun, 04/17/2011 - 6:08am

Just checking if we're on for this morning. Hate to assume "no news is good news." Are we riding? Need to know soon in order to get there on time.

Thanks!

Back by Noon Ride to Nyack - the ride is ON

Submitted by GKeresteci on Sat, 04/16/2011 - 10:04pm
See you in the morning.

On as scheduled - looking forward to it!

Also, if you were planning on going but haven't registered yet, please feel free to go ahead and do so or to e-mail me directly. As it stands, my one official registered rider has dropped out due to injury. (Though I have another friend coming who isn't a club member; I won't be lonely or anything. ;-)

Route info at http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=230118  ; includes only the Brooklyn Portion of the route. (Although I may opt to stay on Bergen Street 'til Vanderbilt and enter Prospect Park that way outbound)
