Questions
Two unrelated questions. First, I have not observed a great deal of police presence in cp between 8AM and 11AM on weekdays over the last two weeks. I'm interested in what others have observed outside the 6-8AM window.
Second, when I exit the greenway at 181 in order to access gwb it seems I have to go against traffic on two streets in order to get to a southbound street. Is there a way to circle around in the direction of traffic to get pointed in the right direction ?
Bloomin Metric pass for sale?

Caught in post-Post dragnet last Tuesday (wrong way on a bike path: Summons)
I got a summons taking a quick shortcut the wrong way on the first avenue bike path. Just one block to get to a west-bound street. It was mid-morning on a bright, sunny day, I was going very slowly and there was no one on the path. Cops were sitting on fifth street and turned on their lights, gave me a summons, asked me if I had seen the Post this morning. ("Of course not!" I thought.) Gave me a summons for $130.00. I locked up my bike and am afraid to use it since. Bikes aren't cars and they should only be ticketed if the behavior is dangerous, my opinion. I mean, it's gonna be impossible to edit my instincts to take shortcuts, so I really can't chance the prohibitive nature of this crack-down.
New Gran Fondo article: Italian Bike Race Takes To The Road in Rockland On Sunday
This Sunday, Rockland will partly be home to the first ever Gran Fondo New York, a roughly 100-mile bicycle race that starts on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge, goes to Bear Mountain and back.
The race starts at 7 a.m., with riders expected to start making their arrival in Rockland at around 8 via Route 9W. The Gran Fondo is a series of competitive races in Italy, although Uli Fluhme, one of the New York race organizers, said they are growing in popularity worldwide.
They first came to America in 2009 with a race in San Diego, and then followed with a race in Philadelphia. Besides New York, Gran Fondo races are also upcoming in Los Angeles and Miami.
Long lost cousin - Sherri Gorelick?
Reading old Bulletins (my years 1993-95) for 75th Anniversay History project -which has been a hoot (actually had gossip type column) and came across an article in August 1993 about Sherri Gorelick and Rosanna Trestman (known as Trixie and Alice) helping nab some bicycle thieves on the GWB (can't make this stuff up!)
My maiden name is Gorelick -- Sherri-are you still a member of the club? Does anyone know of Sherri -- Thinking we might be relatives (share same biking gene!)
Please contact me through MB-

Dangerous intersection: wolf in sheep's clothing
But for timing, I was almost broadsided by a taxi this evening on the Hudson River Bike Path at 40th Street.
Cars, especially cabs, but buses too, traveling southbound on West Street, can make a right hand turn, crossing the bike path, while path users have a green light. In fact, everyone sees a green light. Therefore, all users have a sense of security while moving. But southbound vehicular traffic going at speed can easily nail a user, especially a southbound cyclist who is overtaken by motorized traffic from behind and over the left shoulder.
Ideally, southbound traffic who intend to turn and cross the path should have to idle at the light, green for traffic going straight, staying in a dedicated turning lane on the right.
Buffalo/FingerLakes/NYC
Anybody interested in joining a ride from Buffalo/Niagara area to NYC later this month (possibly early june..)? Looking to do anywhere from 65 - 95 miles/day at anything from B15 to A18. Probably do hotels and double occupancy?.. I can get SAG support (some basic rest stops and luggage transfers..) for cost of gas and a few meals.... I have a few routes and know most of the area well. If anyone is interested please let me know.
Thanks!
