Good place for used bikes

Submitted by Bdgreene13 on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 7:31pm

I'm new to cycling in NYC, and need to buy a bike.  The only thing is that I can't afford anything more than $150-$200 which will not get me a decent new bike.  Does anyone know where I should look to get a GOOD used bike? Or do any of you have one you're looking to sell?

B/C level riders for laps in Central Park

Submitted by MFulton on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 4:17pm

Hi, looking for other riders who can do 4 laps in about 1.75 hrs. I'm about to finish the C-SIG, but I've been riding during the week by myself--it'd be nice to find other people who want to ride during the week.

Generally, I've been riding in the evenings (after the cars are out of the park), but I'd be in to morning rides (before cars are let into the park).

Anyone interested?

Berkshire Dinner Price goes up on May 11th

Submitted by RFranco on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 3:45pm

If you are going to the Berkshires for Memorial Day weekend, don't forget to sign up today for the dinner/dance at the Egremont Country Club.  The price goes from $45 to $50 on Wednesday, May 11th.

Don't miss out on a fun evening of dinner and dancing with your cycling friends.  There is a social hour with passed hor d'ouerves and crudite, dinner with salad, scrumptious entree choices, rice or pasta, veggies, and dessert with coffee and tea.  And the best part, dancing the night away.

B17 to Little Tor, Wednesday 5/11

Submitted by DLoayza on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 1:06pm

Disclaimer: I have NOT been to Little Tor!

Looking for anyone interested in joining, and possibly even leading, this ride!

I'd like to meet at the other side of the GWB around 8:30. I'm still looking for a cue sheet but might end up chopping one up since I haven't found a simple one that just goes to Little Tor and comes back. Any help/recommendations would be appreciated. I might just use the Medio Fondo route from yesterday's Gran Fondo, which is 65 miles. I might prefer to just come back the same way as going up, to keep things simple.

Regarding pace, I am a solid B17 rider and a fresh b-sig graduate (yay).

Are there any members based out of Williamsburg or LIC?

Seen on my building's community board. The petitioner -- who lives in the building next door to mine -- claims that there have been frequent accidents at RSD @ 116th, most recently one that took out a traffic light, median trees, and part of the park furniture on the promenade level of Riverside Park.

The petition proposes to calm the intersection by installing speed bumps at the intersection approaches. Leaving aside the general wisdom of that sort of speed bump installation -- it's more usual for such things to be installed midblock, right? Not at the bottom of a downhill entering an intersection? -- putting speed bumps across a major (and designated!) bike route would be dangerous.
