Death and doom

Submitted by Jim N on Wed, 06/29/2011 - 11:19am

Am I the only one who doesn't want to read about death and dismemberment on the NYCC message board?

If you read, say, a car forum (and way more people die in cars, even in New York City, than in any other method of transport), it's not all about death.

Why are cyclists so obsessed with or fascinated by accidents?  Just looking at the raw statistics, it's not like we have that much to worry about.

I hope I haven't offended anyone by expressing this sentiment.

Jersey Shore Routes?

Submitted by kevbo205 on Wed, 06/29/2011 - 11:13am

I am wondering if anyone has information for rides around the Jersey Shore.  I found a route to get down there from Newark which I plan on doing, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for day rides I can do once I'm down there.  If not full rides, then even just somes good roads to ride on or sources where I could find such information?

Specifically, I'll be down near Point Pleasant / Seaside so rides around the Tom's River or even slightly further west would be great.

Caution on downhill of Tweed

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Tue, 06/28/2011 - 9:38pm

If you plan on climbing Bradley into Tweed, please take heed...right after you crest the top of Tweed and start the downhill, immediately after the second turn (the one that banks right) there is a LOT of gravel and some sharp rocks left over from last week's flooding.  I rode it Monday.  The gravel was dense, and it's okay to ride through, but trying to do anything but go straight is dangerous.  Not sure when/if they will "sweep" it or it'll just naturally get moved by cars.
Also, this is pure hearsay, but River Rd is supposed to be hairy in the usual spots, also from the water runoff last week.

Friday, July 1 ride is on

Submitted by MKaufman on Tue, 06/28/2011 - 6:56pm

I revised this ride, and it temporarily disappeared from the ride listings, but ride is on. We can decide that day whether to do Nyack or Piermont.
