Where Will YOU Be Riding On July 4th?

Submitted by MTownsend on Sun, 07/03/2011 - 7:24pm

Did your ride get rained out today?

Mine did.

Are you looking for somewhere to ride tomorrow?

Well you're in luck because Lesse & I will be making another pilgrimage to Staten Island on July 4th.

Where will we be going on Staten Island?

Our ultimate destination is the Towne Deli in Tottenville but how we get there is still up in the air.  I only know that we're not going to be using a cue sheet and that we'll be testing out my new compact crankset on at least a few of SI's hills.

How long of route will we be riding?

Not really too sure because as I said earlier we won't be using a cue sheet but I suspect that our route will be somewhere between 65-75 miles.

Bear on Bear Mountain

Submitted by EMaynard on Sun, 07/03/2011 - 4:16pm

Or close by....yesterday, my ride group saw a black bear near Tiorati Circle in Harriman State Park. First it was hanging out near the restrooms, then it crossed the road and passed right in front of our group as we went out Seven Lakes Drive.

Did anyone else see this? Who knew that Bear Mountain had bears?

ride to Sandy Hook tomorrow

Submitted by ACorless on Sun, 07/03/2011 - 9:37am

Since there will be no riding today (stupid rain), I am planning to ride to Sandy Hook tomorrow to enjoy a hot afternoon on the beach.  Taking the 7:14am train from Penn Station to Newark, then riding a quick, flat, relatively car-free 60 miles to Sandy Hook.  Expect to keep a 20/21 mph pace.  After several hours of beach lounging, I will hop on the 3:45 or 5:45 ferry back to Manhattan.  I have done this ride numerous times & thoroughly enjoyed the ride (and the destination) every time.  Anyone care to join me?

Cyclist killed in Manhattan

Sister in law of famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz is killed by a mail truck driver.  Not only is it okay to kill someone as long as you're in a car when you do it, now it's also cool if you leave the scene of a deadly accident.
