Even if there's little chance of recovering the bike, it's at least worth trying. That being said, be careful everyone!!

DuraAce 7900 Deraileur Cables

Submitted by BFriedman on Tue, 07/12/2011 - 8:27am

I was riding yesterday when my rear derailleur cable broke. In 35 years of riding this had never happened to me. I seem to remember, on another ride this season, somone's DA 7900 derailleur cable broke. When mine broke, fortunately, I wasn't to far from the Tenafly bike shop. When I asked... they said that it is common because of the sharp bend in the new DA design (cable routing under the handlebar tape). They suggested that the DA 7900 derailleur cables be changed at least once per season. Obviously, I agree. So... DA makes our bikes look better with the new cable routing, makes them more fragile and eliminates the useful "what gear I am in thing" that could be installed on the externally routed cable.

You're asked to wear your oldest club jerseys on the Gala Ride Saturday. See the old NYCC jerseys on our club Website's vintage jersey page: http://nycc.org/about-us/nycc-jersey-archives

I'm selling very seldom worn ones from 1999 (Liberty Helmet), 2003 (Brooklyn Bridge), and 2009 (Liberty Wheel), size L. $60 each. Entire proceeds to Ed's Kids Ride Club. One of the Brooklyn bridge jerseys is literally one-of-a-kind: it is the only one made with a full length zipper.

Also: Even more rare (L) warm (brush lined) long-sleeved jerseys of Liberty Helmet and Brooklyn Bridge designs: $75 each. Again, proceeds to Kids Ride Club.

montreal double double

Submitted by ZBernstein on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 5:26pm

Adirondack Ultra Cycling is running a fun-looking event: ride from Schuylerville (near Saratoga) to Montreal on August 5th, rest and relax in Montreal on Aug. 6th, and ride from Montreal to Schuylerville on August 7th.  It's 200 miles each way.  Details at http://www.adkultracycling.com/montreal/index.htm.

Anyone interested in sharing a ride? (I don't have a car). Anyone who's done this before want to share their thoughts about the ride?

Gala Tickets

Submitted by MBruckner on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 11:39am

Hi,

I am pretty sure that I purchased two tickets for the Gala but have not received hard tickets. I had just assumed that my name would be on a list at the door, but I get the sense from some other posts that hard tickets are circulating. How can I confirm that (i) I actually bought tickets and (ii) how to get hold of them?

Thanks!

As Time describes Yohann's participation in this year's Tour de France, "his presence is remarkable."  Here's to the miscegenation of cycling!!

Hi all.

I am looking to organize a bike trip through southeast Asia this fall - now end of November.  The larger tour companies, such as Velo Asia, will plan custom tours for small groups allowing you to tailor difficulty level as well as arrival/departure dates.  This gives a group much more flexibility than just joining one of their standard trips.
