Time to Change My Tires?

Submitted by RPu on Sun, 07/31/2011 - 12:39pm

Riding in the Bronx yesterday, I had two flats on my front tire, which may be a sign that the tire has gone bald. The tire was a Continental Grand Prix 4000 with 2,053 miles on it.

After the first flat, I'm pretty sure I removed anything that might have been lodged in the tire before installing the new tube. So I don't ascribe the second flat to an object lodged in the tire.

2000 miles doesn't sound like alot to me, even though I take the Grand Prix to be a better, and therefore thinner, tire. This was, after all, the Bronx, where there's alot of road debris. How often should I change a tire like the Grand Prix?

Submitted by FannyB on Sun, 07/31/2011 - 6:09am

Just curious... anyone doing the Farm Ride ? (Aug 12 - 14 in Amherst & Northampton, MA - http://thefarmride.com/Home_Page.html)

I'd like to stay over the entire 3 days but for now I may only sign up for the century on August 13. Have you participated before ? Is it worth staying for the "relax rides" of Friday and Sunday as well ?

Thanks !

City Island C14 ride 7/30/11- status

Submitted by JFinder on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 7:01pm

It's raining at Yankee Stadium, but sunny outside my window 2 miles away.  It looks like the winds, hail and tornados will be finished by midnight.  Check the message board after 8 a.m. for any possible change in the ride status.

If you've signed up but are not planning on join us tomorrow, please delete yourself from the list of riders so that someone else can sign up.

It's also been suggested that I advise you that the lunch spot on City Island only accepts cash.

Don't forget your bike map, subway map, Metrocard, etc. to cover you in case you need to bail out before the end of the ride.

Sat. 7/30, NYC to Cold Spring, A19

Submitted by RGentile on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 9:49am

Kevin Cruickshank and I will lead a MELLOW Rockland Cty ride on Saturday.  The exact route will be determined by the weather conditions and rider preferences, but we're planning on finishing in Cold Spring and taking the train back, probably passing through Harriman on the way up.

This is not an official NYCC ride--no cue sheets, no sign-in sheets.  Regroup after climbs.  Required: paceline skills, helmet, and all the other usual.

We'll meet at 8am at Grant's Tomb.
