manhattan to white plains/purchase?

Submitted by michael5wong on Sun, 07/24/2011 - 7:25pm

Hey!  I'm a new NY rider.  I live near the west side highway downtown, and work in Purchase (Westchester).  Can anybody recommend some routes to ride to work?  From what I've read, it sounds difficult without going through a lot of traffic, but hoping someone can help me out!

Thanks,

Michael

Tuesday night unofficial B/16-17 ride to Alpine

Submitted by mendelay on Sun, 07/24/2011 - 6:33pm

Anyone interested in joining a 2 hr, B/16-17 UNOFFICIAL ride, Tuesday eve to Alpine, please show up at Sakura Park at 7pm.

We'll go up to Alpin via the Henry Hudson Drive ("River Rd."). It will be about dusk when we get back, so bring lights. A safer alternative would be to take the Subway once we cross the GW back to the city.

Please check back to this page for changes.

Ticketing on Riverside

Submitted by ROrvedahl on Sun, 07/24/2011 - 1:33pm

Early this morning on Riverside Drive in the 100s, I happened upon a woman being ticketed for cycling through a red light.  She told  me that she was also getting dinged (sorry, can't resist) for not having a bell and back reflector.  So ticketing continues - though it's my sense that it's occurring less often.  Yes?  No?

Vulture

Submitted by AMarcus on Sun, 07/24/2011 - 1:19am

The image of the vulture in profile sitting in the middle of our fast approaching line on River Road, not in the least concerned, unflinching and unmoving is stuck in my mind.  It was fearsome enough looking that the choice was to pass behind it rather than in front.  Fortunately, we were neither dead nor in a weakened state (a good thing it was before Alpine).  It's always fun to fly down 9W towards Piermont, but I think that encounter made it extra exhilirating this time.

Help w/ Pedestrian & Cyclist Counts on E.233 Street (7/29, 7/30)

Submitted by MRodriguez on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 4:36pm

We need your help. Pedestrian & cyclist counts are necessary on E. 233rd St, near Bronx Blvd. We need 10-12 volunteers for July 29th or July 30th. There's various shifts to choose from.

Your efforts will help DOT further understand the safest method for connecting the Bronx River Greenway between Shoelace Park and Muskrat Cove.

Summer cleaning sale

Submitted by ICho on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 10:25am

Hi guys,

I need to do some massive spring (well, more like hot summer) cleaning so here are some things that I'm selling. Several are items that I've had for review/testing that have minimal use. I have pictures of all so email me if you're interested.

Edge 45 Carbon Clinchers - Laced to Chris King R45 wheels (laced 20F/24R). Awesome wheels but I don't race enough to justify them sitting in the closet. Have about 300 miles on them with no crashes or defects. Retail price is $2800. Selling for $1500.

2011 Specialized Prevail helmet - Version that was released this spring. White, Large. Retails for $230. Selling for $140. Used about 5 times.

Cervelo RS 51cm for sale

Submitted by ICho on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 10:16am

Hi,

I'm selling a 2008 Cervelo RS (51cm) with a SRAM Force group. It's a great bike that I used for the past 2 years and just upgraded this spring so I haven't been riding it very much. Need to do some spring cleaning.

The bike is in great condition and will best fit someone from 5'6" to 5'8". I can help with the basic fitting.

Amazing touring cyclist

Submitted by JReaven on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 8:45pm

On a ferry boat ride in Nicaragua to Ometepe volcanic island yesterday I met an amazing touring cyclist...a British guy nearing the end of his 5+ year trip around the world. "All he has left" is the ride from Nicaragua to Seattle, then a plane to Eastern Europe and thence on to England. Check out Rob's web site, see his tiger tan (a specialty of bald cyclists apparently), read about his excellent bike,  see his photos, and read his wisdom at at http://www.robsbikeride.com/
