100 rider paceline on Hudson Terrace - Thu morning

Submitted by JFeinberg on Thu, 09/01/2011 - 11:29am

Riding south on Hudson Terrace at 9am today, I saw a paceline of about 100 riders heading north.  Was that some sort of event, or just a *really* popular training ride?

Bike Marshals needed fro bike portion of Toughman Triathlon

Submitted by Richard Izzo on Thu, 09/01/2011 - 7:12am

We would like to invite any of the club to help out volunteering at The Toughman Tri in Westchester NY on 9/11 from 7:30am-noon.

It is a 56m bike course that rolls across the hills of N. Westchester. They would be asked to man several corners from 7:45am-noon and then they would be invited back to Croton Point Park to partake in a post race celebration including live music and a BBQ.

Last yrs race raised over $130,000 for 33 charities. This year are supporting the 9/11 Memorial being erected at Croton Landing with a piece of steel from the WTC.

Woman killed riding in bike lane would be alive if construction debris cleared up: Family (NY Daily News, Sept. 1, 2011)

[Note: this is a follow-up to yesterday's "controversial" [*cough*] posting]

The family of a Brooklyn woman killed by a car after she fell off her bicycle said she would still be alive if construction debris had been cleared from the bike lane.

Erica Abbott, 29, was riding her bike southbound on Bushwick Ave. when she came across a makeshift fence that had toppled into the bike lane near Powers St. about 7 p.m. Tuesday, cops and a relative said.

Hi folks,

I just wanted to post one last reminder about the ride from Philly to NY.

Arvi and I will be meeting at the art museum at 5:45 am this Sunday, so please feel free to tag along.

We'll probably amble along at a B 16-17 pace depending on the usual variables.

Now I before someone slaps a big "DUH!" decal on my forehead, tells me that EVERYONE knows this site and that the mysterious but clearly unbelieveably industrious Ken and Sharon Roberts are NYCC life members ... this is IN CASE some NY cycling neophyte from another planet like me hasn't seen it ...

Downeast Maine rides through Labor Day Weekend

Submitted by FHarris on Wed, 08/31/2011 - 9:15am

Message me if you are interested in some road bike riding (40-75 mile hilly routes) on the Blue Hill Peninsula or Deer Isle over the next week.  The roads are mostly paved, exceptionally scenic and have very light traffic.  I do have a few extra bikes up here if you need to borrow one.
