Quality $300 bicycles, do they exist?
Hey, I have a student worker looking to purchase a starter road bike. His low budget (at around the $300 mark) is making it very difficult for me to advise him in any way other than suggesting saving up to buy a better one, which I really would prefer to avoid.
Does anyone have any suggestions for potential resources I can turn him towards? Thanks for your help and usggestions in advance.
1/7/2012 Saturday morning B17 quickie
Anyone interested in a B17 ride tomorrow, short and sweet? Meet-up at 9:00 on the NJ side of the GWB for a quick ride up to the Palisades Market for coffee and then back. Was planning to go up thru Tenafly, take Piermont Rd. to Rockleigh Road and down to 9W. Back 9W with possible ride up thru the campus. Open to River Road as well, either direction. Would love the company. B17 is the best I can do and I crawl up the hills.
If interested confirm at this address ([email protected])

PACTOUR Peru pursuits
Happy new one, folks (I can still say that, right?)
I believe there are quite a few PACTOUR alumni in the club, so if you're one of them or follow RAAM legend Lon Haldeman read on, otherwise, see you at the rest stop!
I'm just back from an assignment in Peru with Lon videoing his many, many charitable projects for schools, orphans and streetkids there. He also sponsors two local women cycling champs who are training for the Olympics. Yes, he's about WAY more than riding the ridge of the rockies on a fixie 100 miles/day without breaking a sweat!
Here's the 90 sec trailer:
2012 Mileage Log
Is it possible to get the mileage log located in the Rides section updated? I love it's simplicity. Thanks in advance. Rita
2012 SIGs
I've been averaging five e-mails a week for the last couple of weeks asking SIG questions. Yeah, spring is coming...
The February club meeting is dedicated to all things SIG. Since I've been a member, it's been one of the more well attended meetings each and every year. I would suggest marking the 14th on your calendar, it's a fun meeting. It's also Valentine's Day. So, if you have questions pertaining to the A-19 SIG, and an S/O who may require you to be elsewhere on February 14th, come to the meeting this Tuesday, I'll be happy to answer them before the program begins (and maybe after it's over too!). I'll be the rakish gent, near the bar, with a beer in my hand (modesty has NEVER been my strong suit).

Best Time Of The Year To Attempt The Delaware Water Gap Century?
The obvious answer to my question is "When you're fit enough".
Seriously, does anyone have any first hand experience or an opinion of when is the best time of the year to attempt the Delaware Water Gap century?
There's a cue cheet for it in the Club's ride library and I understand that it's a challenging ride. I'm looking to do some different things during the upcoming cycling season and I thought it might be a good ride to put on my 2012 cycling ambitions list.
Cheers!
