Giro d'Italia viewing

Submitted by ABusino on Sat, 05/12/2012 - 3:57pm

Hello everybody,

I'm new to the club and look forward to riding with everyone. While recently watching Giro highlights at a local eatery a stranger asked if I wouldn't mind letting him catch up on the race with me. It dawned on me that there really isn't a "go to" place to watch cycling events in the company of other cyclists. I know there is streaming video of the race live, but really, whats better then the person next to you dropping some knowledge about the history of a certain climb, riders, etc... You don't get that streaming.

Fine for having no bell ?

Last month I was stopped in Herald Square (33rd and B'way) for going through a red light (which I admit I did).  It was part of one of NYPD's swoops on our community with perhaps 7 or 8 young officers forced into lots of paperwork.

Does anyone have reccomendations for sunglasses?

I'm finding the combination of dappled light and potholes to be stressful and wondering if there is a lens that gives you the best  vision for these conditions?

I like the glasses that I wear, they have variable lenses that adapt to light, but I'm wondering if polarized or something else would be better?

NYC Wheel Builder Recommendations

Submitted by johnkim75 on Fri, 05/11/2012 - 8:50pm

Hi All,

I'm in the process of restoring my old 86 Schwinn Prelude as my "city" bike and ran into a problem with my old wheels.  Basically the rims are shot... there are several rivets pulling out and the lbs said they could not be trued.  All the other components are in great shape, and because of the age of the bike I can't simply install a new set of modern wheels.

Since the hubs are in good shape I'm looking to have the wheels rebuilt with new 32 hole rims.  Can anyone recommend a local wheelbuilder for the job?

Any help would be appreciated.

btw... the rear hub is 126mm with a 6 speed free hub and index shifting.

Thanks!

Berkshires - Room(s) at Race Brook Lodge - Memorial Day weekend

Submitted by BAshmore on Fri, 05/11/2012 - 1:43pm

A friend just booked a room at the Race Brook lodge for Memorial Day weekend and they told her that they would like to extend a 10% discount to all NYCC members who come for that weekend.

(They have had to turn people away in the past due to the Lime Rock group that usually stays there over the same weekend. However, that (motor) race was moved to September this year which has freed up a lot of rooms).

See www.RBLodge.com for details.
