Submitted by JJacobson on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 3:57pm

Gypsy Donut & Coffee Bar 18 N Franklin  just off Main at M&T Bank & Lydecker Real Estate.  Co-owner David Schloss, the founder of Rockland Bike Club is a friend of mine who has participated in some NYCC activities over the years. It opens at 7 AM and all day.  Sample Stumptown Coffee and an eclectic array of of doughnuts.  Planned for the near future are savory donuts (appropriate for lunch?) http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012305060036&nclick_check=1

5 boro bike tour...avoiding congestion

Submitted by JBrodie on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 7:27pm

I've signed up for the 5bbt tomorrow.  But from what I've been hearing, the start is a real mess.  Has anyone tried starting their ride from further along the planned route, say as the leaders went by?  Is this frowned upon?  Is it possible?

Thanks.

What Is the Gimbels Ride and is it a Safe Ride?

Submitted by dvisoky on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 5:31pm

I started riding with NYCC/CRCA in the early 90's, moved to Westchester in 1993 and started riding with Gimbels immediately afterwards.  I estimate that I ride with Gimbels about 40 to 50 times each year (long ride only).  When the clock Springs forward in March, Gimbels is not considered the main training ride in the area as there is a Wednesday Night Ride (WNR) which leaves from Greenwich and a Tuesday Night Ride (TNR) which leaves from White Plains which are much more intense.

Driving to the Berks Friday evening?

Submitted by WWright on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 2:49pm

I'm looking for a ride to the Berkshires (Sheffield to be precise) on the Friday evening of Memorial Day weekend.  There's a good chance I'll have to work that Friday and not be able to ride up with the club like I usually do.  My bike and luggage already have rides so it would just be me and the clothes on my back.

Please contact me directly if you can help me out.

Thanks,

Wayne

Buffet menu changes at Annie Moore's for this Tuesday's meeting

Submitted by EWeiss on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 1:03pm

We have made a couple of changes on the buffet menu at Annie Moore's for this Tuesday's meeting. We have substituted Baked Ziti for Vegetable Lasagna and a Greek Salad for the house salad. Other buffet choices include: Chicken Marsala and Shepherd's Pie, with sides of: yellow rice (with mushroom gravy) and mixed steamed vegetables. You do not have to purchase a dinner ($20.00) to attend the meeting, participate in the program or enter the raffle. However, if you are planning to join us for dinner, please send me an e-mail at [email protected]. We hope to see you at the meeting to applaud for the graduating B-SIGGIES, learn about Gran Fondo NJ and maybe even win a new Jamis Xenith Endura camp road bike.

Do Wheel Suckers Have No Shame?

Submitted by MTownsend on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 12:53pm

Some clown drafted off me for over 30 minutes while I was out for a ride on the LIE Service Road this morning.

This 10+ stretch was interrupted very briefly only when we went up the incline just after Post Road.  (Little does he know that it's not much of an accomplishment to pass the Big Fella on an incline.)  It was then that I saw that the asshat wasn't even wearing a helmet.

When I turned left in order to start my trip home he continued on straight without even so much as an acknowledgement or a "thank you".
