River Road Tuesday Cancelled

Submitted by MTravisano on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 11:20pm

Because of the high chance of rain and oh yeah, the trees blocking the road, tomorrow's ride is cancelled.

River Road photos post hurricane

It's almost as though a hurricane hit it. Oh, wait, it did.

The tree in the first photo you can get over. Not this one.

NYCC Ride Photos for November 12th 2012

Submitted by dianegoodwin on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 7:20pm

Hello All,

I was lucky enought to ride with Michael Samuel this morning to Piermont - and meeting at GWB, we met up with Morene's group of B16 and then at Bunbury's in Piermont later.

I have photos on Facebook. To view: type dianegoodwin after the link to facebook (my profile name).

It was great to see everyone. In addition to Morene's group, we saw Richard Rosenthal on 9W. Ed Fishkin and Terrance arrived at Bunbury's just as we were leaving - always nice to see Ed.

Signing up for NYCC Rides

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 5:10pm

I have found that most club members are considerate of others' time.  However, having lead two rides in the last two days, I found there were no-shows both days.  One member was kind enough to email me during the day, saying he had bad mechanical issues.  The other yesterday simply didn't show, while there was a waiting list all week for the ride.  Today, though the weather was nice, we waitied 15 minutes for two no-shows.  No email, no phone call...just no-shows.  People, PLEASE, if you cannot make the ride, email or text the leader!  It is just plain inconsiderate to keep an entire group waiting for phantom riders.

Helmet Suggestion

Submitted by Lucia on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 1:53pm

Is there a particular brand or type of helmet that works well for someone with a fro, or who otherwise has really big hair?  Or, is there a way you've found to "tie down" the hair (e.g., with a bandana or do rag) to fit a normal helmet?  Serious question!  Thanks!

Gran fondos expanding around the U.S.

Submitted by JFinder on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 12:25pm

The company that runs the Giro d'Italia has branched out into running gran fondos in the U.S., aiming to increase the prominence of the Giro in the growing U.S. market.

Here's their website:  www.granfondogiroditalia.com.

They were a partner in this year's NY Gran Fondo, although not the main organizer:  http://www.prlog.org/11407998-giro-ditalia-is-an-official-partner-of-gra...

And here's a trashy article about yesterday's Miami Gran Fondo:  http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/11/03/3079753/gran-fondo-giro-ditalia-cy....

Hello all-

I've just left a message with Palisades Interstate Park's Anthony Taranto, inquiring about potentially helping with post-Sandy clean up. While it may sound/seem selfish to some, I know I would love to have a hand in helping make such an amazing resource available once again to the public. It seemed likely to me that some of my NYCC family might feel the same.

I'll be posting a "ride" in the near future to do so, should the park staff allow outside help.

Stay tuned!

Hotel or Motel in Boston?

Submitted by NWeissman on Sun, 11/11/2012 - 8:31pm

Near Amtrak South Station.

Will literally be getting there in the evening, leaving in the morning.  So just a clean space to sleep for a night.

Please sign up via the ride listing page so I know to expect you.
