Recommendations to good wall-mounted apartment bike racks?

Submitted by bomberpete on Thu, 11/29/2012 - 4:12pm
We are looking for an wall-mounted apartment bicycle rack. It needs to accommodate up to four bicycles, and be safe from a growing toddler's curious hands and growing body.

Our building doesn't have a bike room, only outdoor racks that I use for my commuter beater. We need to keep the "good ones" here.

Does anyone have any experience and recommendations to share?

Fixie with no toe clips - recommended or not?

Submitted by GYang on Thu, 11/29/2012 - 2:13pm

I have a single speed with fixed/free rear hub that I have been riding around town in the free mode.

I am thinking of flipping it over the fixed side. There are no toe clips on the pedals now.

Question - is it OK to ride a fixie without toe clips or can I get myself in trouble that way?

thanks.

Hand Built Carbon Fiber Bike Project

Submitted by jegrgic on Wed, 11/28/2012 - 7:25pm

This is my winter project, to build a Carbon Fiber bike from scratch.  After a month of research, ive decided to do a Zipp style beam bike with asymetrial rear stays.  Depending on how the molding process goes, ill include bottle holders at rear below seat or incorporate a bladder system by the head tube like the S-works tri bikes.

Blue prints have be created based around my current road bike geometry for Front/Rear Axels, BB, Head Tube and Top tube.  This combined with my bike fitting measurements allow for a one size bike geometry (non adjustable seat) that i think makes the design more open feeling.

Cyclofemme

Submitted by Stombaugh on Mon, 11/26/2012 - 9:26am

A friend of mine, Sarai Snyder, founded an amazing organization earlier this year called Cyclofemme.  The purpose is to celebrate women on bikes and to encourage more to ride.

About 20 NYCC members rode in the first Cyclofemme ride last April (with really cool temporary tattoos) and we'll do it again in 2013.

For now, Cyclofemme is asking women to sign the "Pledge" to get one more woman on a bike.  A link to it is below

Let me know if you have any questions and happy riding!

Any recommendations for cycling DVDs for indoor training?  Prefer 60-120 minutes of high intensity.

Tuesday Nov 28, B16 morning laps in Central Park Cancelled

Submitted by GRoss on Sun, 11/25/2012 - 4:34pm

I have to make an early court appearance on Long Island Tuesday morning and must cancel the B16 "Morning Laps" ride. The Thursday morning ride is still on, weather permitting.

It's difficult to do a double pace line when nobody shows up. Where are all the cool weather slow riders? The A19 guys are out in force and they get just as cold as we do. And it's not even that cold yet!
