River Road Scouting Report

CLEAR -  entrance to top of Ross Dock hill

TREACHEROUS - top of Ross Dock hill to Alpine Hill roundabout.  Lots of leaves and twigs and small branches.   Negotiable, but if you are not an expert bike handler then don't try it, yet.

CLEAR - Alpine Hill roundabout to police station

Three cheers for SPCarbon

Submitted by allisoncasey on Sat, 11/17/2012 - 12:32pm

After pulling the trigger on a beautiful new bike earlier this week, last night I ventured down to Shawn Powell's SPCarbon shop in Brooklyn to pick up a Garmin 500 he generously sells us NYCC folks at a discount. And I'm just saying... sometimes you're happy with service, and sometimes you're blown away by it. This was most definitely the latter. He tweaked a few things on the bike, adjusted the saddle, installed the Garmin and set up the computer. Crazy generosity. It felt like a new new bike on the ride home. :) Anyway, just wanted to share. Definitely worth checking him out.

Turkey day ride

Submitted by jegrgic on Sat, 11/17/2012 - 12:23pm

Would anybody be up for a ride on thanksgiving day in the morning?

Im thinking a quick ride to piermont and back (possibly nyack).  Other routes encouraged.  Probably a B16-18 ride level.

If enough people are interested, ill post.

Thanks

Good news! River Road has been cleared!!

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 11/16/2012 - 5:40pm

You could have seen this Monday (Nov. 12); you won't see it now. I just (Friday 11/16, 4:30PM) spoke with someone in the PIPC office at Alpine who said he drove the road two days ago...meaning it's clear!

Bike box to borrow or rent

Submitted by CHelfet on Fri, 11/16/2012 - 4:31pm

I'm planning to do a ride in Cape Town, South Africa (Argus Cycle Tour, http://www.cycletour.co.za/) in March 2013 and am looking to borrow or rent a sturdy bike box (preferably not cardboad) for a little over two weeks, starting in early March.  Does the NYCC have a bike box (or boxes) for members' use?  If not, suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advance.

Clive

A sincere note of thanks to David and Tracey Williams, our November meeting's presenters, and of course, the Stephen Roche Camp, our generous meeting's sponsor, for "flying across the pond" to spend a wonderful evening with us to discuss "the joys" of climbing and descending, and to inform us of the beautifully revitalized Stephen Roche Camp, in the gorgeous "Cycling Disneyland" of Majorca, Spain.

Aaron Marks is looking for someone to pick up 700 items of food TODAY in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, (just past Staten Island,) to be delivered at the Rockaways. Please go to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Volunteer Group Pagehttps://www.facebook

Today we'll head inland and ride north on 505. This will be a steady effort (16-17), mostly flat B ride with not many turns and no cue sheet. We'll lunch in Nyack and head south on 501. Simple and easy ride with fast, lightly trafficked suburban roads.  The group stays together/ regroups after turns and climbs. You bring your group riding skills, good cheer and whatever you need to be self-sufficient to spend a beautiful day in Bergan and Rockland. Back in NYC before 3 PM.

South in NJ after the GWB?

I always turn north (well, very occassionally, I go west). East is the water, natch. Is there any nice riding to the south?
