Morning laps in Central Park Dec. 11

Submitted by GRoss on Mon, 12/10/2012 - 12:41pm

I will be out of town tomorrow morning and thought i had "delisted" my "Morning Laps" ride. Somehow I failed in that effort.
Fortunately, Jim Olson has stepped into the breach and listed the same ride for tomorrow morning. So be sure to sign up for Jim's ride and not mine.

Sorry about the confusion.

Neat Iphone / Android App - bike shop locator

Submitted by CMordas on Mon, 12/10/2012 - 9:38am

I may be the last kid on the block to get this toy, but just downloaded 'Bike Shops North America'.  It allows you to locate bike shops nearby - it gives distance, directions, phone #.   I only tried it out locally, but am pretty impressed.

on the subject of lighting

Submitted by LPress on Sat, 12/08/2012 - 9:50pm

Does anyone know who to contact in regards to the Greenway? I'd love to advocate for lighting from 59th to 68th.

It's pitch black  and the flashing lights on the west fence are more of a distraction than an aide. It does teach you to ride by feel however.

fenders are a good idea this time of the year

Submitted by GRoss on Sat, 12/08/2012 - 8:41pm

A couple of us today had fenders on our bikes. Not only do they dramatically reduce the amount of wet road crud that gets on your feet, bottom bracket and riding jacket, the make it a lot more pleasant to draft on another rider without getting a mouthful of dirty water and sand coming off the wheel of the rider in front.

Modern plastic fenders don't weigh much and fasten on in a few seconds with rubber straps around the fork blades or seat stays.

They work, try them. Your fellow riders will thank you for it.

Change to Three Rings for Bikin' Kings and Queens ride Sunday Dec 9

Submitted by GYang on Sat, 12/08/2012 - 5:35pm

While the morning weather looks pretty good a ride, the early afternoon could bring showers.

In the interest of staying dry in 40F temps we are going to change/shorten the route and ride River Road, 9W, Bradley/Tweed to Piermont with Rod and Andy whether they like it or not!

Cue Sheet Paper recommendation

Submitted by GRoss on Sat, 12/08/2012 - 3:33pm

I hold my cue sheets with a small clip and for years have used a normal binder clip. The only problem is that on a wet day, like today's Piermont ride, the cue sheet disintegrates.

I found a water resistant paper that performs well in wet conditions, It is called "Ruff-n-Tuff and made by Graytex Papers. The company sells different types of water resistant or waterproof papers; this variety is the cheapest at about 50 cents a sheet if bought in a box of 50 sheets. The paper runs through a normal inkjet or laserprinter like any other paper. It is also tear resistant so one can use a cue sheet a number of times before it wears out.
