Tour de Brooklyn Scouting Ride Saturday

Submitted by RWechsler on Thu, 12/13/2012 - 11:09am

I plan to ride a 50 mile (+/-) Tour de Brooklyn Saturday (12/15). Start time 9 am from the UWS. I'm not listing the ride "officially" as part of it will be scouting; need to see if the bike path south of the Verrazano is passable (was pretty rough just after Sandy), and if not, scout an alternate. Shouldn't be too hard.

Pace will  be B-16. Email me if you're interested in joining. Can pick you up in Brooklyn if you prefer. [email protected]

App for Cycling Clubs

Submitted by Mara on Thu, 12/13/2012 - 4:54am

Hi Everyone,

I'm part of a small start-up company that is building a free iPhone app that lets you share your cycling activities with friends.  It is great for groups, and I would love to have the chance to work with someone who is involved in NYCC.  The app is called Carely and you can check it out at www.care.ly/groups to learn about how it is especially good for cycling clubs.

If anyone is interested in setting this up for the club, please contact me.  I would be happy to tell you more, answer any questions, and even set up the NYCC group for you!  We are a pretty new company just getting off the ground and we'd be very excited to work with this clearly active and passionate group!

Thank you,

Mara

Join us for a fun and leisurely ride to see the "miracle mile" of Christmas Lights and decorations in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. The spectacular displays draw 150,000 visitors a year who come from as far away as Japan. So come prepared with bicycle bells ringing to the tune of Jingle Bells.

2013 SIG

Submitted by JimC on Tue, 12/11/2012 - 12:27pm

Hi,

I am thinking of signing up for the SIG in 2013 and have a couple questions about the levels. Does the B SIG cover the same material as the C SIG? I am wondering if someone needs to have graduated from the C in order to join the B.

Thanks!

No one signed up for the ride - not a single person, bah humbug! If there's no rain and the roads are dry, I'm going on Terry and Harv's ride 5:45AM from Tavern on the green.

Can anyone tell me the differences of the 3 lugged steel frames (De Rosa Neo Primato, Cinelli Supercorsa, Colnago Master X) in terms of stiffness, ride quality, handling, and downhill stability? All of these steel frames are manufactured today. How do these steel frames compare to a high end Merckx carbon frame?

For a given frame geometry (i.e., seat angle, head angle, top tube length, fork rake kept constant), what effect does the chainstay length (shorter or longer) have, if any, in hill climbing? I have attempted a vector diagram with no conclusion.
