Suggestions for Oregon Tour
Four fellow fifty-somethings and I (the "Five Shades of Gray") are planning a self-contained, self-guided one-week tour in Oregon in mid-May. The route, roughly speaking, looks to be from Forest Grove (near Portland) north and west to Astoria on the coast, down the coast through Tillamook to Lincoln City, then heading east to Corvallis and back up to Forest Grove via McMinnville.
We'd be grateful for any suggestions for route modifications, places to eat or sleep, sights to see (we've got the Spruce Goose covered), wineries, brew-pubs or other points of interest. In particular if anyone knows of a cyclist-friendly B&B or similar lodging in Corvallis, we'd love to hear about it.
With thanks in advance,
Peter Storey
FOBO rides in Central Park
I had a lot of fun trying to figure out what a FOBO ride is. There are so many definitions that seem to apply:

However, I think I finally got it.
How Slippery is it?
How Slippery is it?
The Society of Accident Reconstructionists (SOAR) puts out a publication called "The Source". In the "Winter 1998" issue they published a study done by John E. Hunter who conducted an extensive study of the frictional values of car tires involved in collisions on snow/ice covered roads. The Friction Values (coefficient of friction) were taken at the road tire interface and represent values available to a normally treaded tire representing the equivalent of "good equipment."

PS> A "ususal suspect" has an extra set of 700c x 40 studded tires in Marketplace.
B15 Morning Laps in Central Park for 2/5/13 Cancelled
The forecast is snow on the road and 26 degree temperatures; the ride is cancelled.
See the NYCC in the NYT... 22 years ago this week.

It pains me, a lifelong Weather Wussy, to state the Times made a mistake, but I didn't ride in the cold 22 years ago just as I don't now, and I didn't tell the reporter I did.
route recommendation request...
I would like to cycle from Manhatten to other side of the Harlem River (by Spuyten). It seems we cannot ride accross the Henry Hudson Parkway. How long a walk is it across that bridge? Is there any better way than dismounting and walking?

WTF!1305 ride report

WTF! #5 - “Winter Trailways”. Figuring the overnight snow would turn something familiar into something unique, we banked Patriot’s Path and trained up to Brewster and down the North-South County Trailway. 3 riders. 49 miles. 1000’ climbing. Ride condiitions a twin of last week, sunny, crisp. Consistent 2” fresh powder. Perfect.
CANCELLED: Sunday, Feb 3, 2013 - Lucky 13_Better In Bergen
CANCELLED: Lucky 13 Feb 3_Better In Bergen ... due to storm and frigid temps, we are cancelling tomorrow's ride. Hopefully next week is better. :)
Best,
Diane
I hear something rattling around inside my wheel
My rear wheel on my road/weekend bike sounds like there's some sort of object rolling around freely inside the tube when the rim spins at low RPM. Like a roulette-wheel kind of thing. It's not coming from the hub, it's definitely from inside the rim/tire chamber.
I can't hear it when I'm on the bike, it's a very subtle noise. I think I first heard it when I was carrying it through my apartment and the rear wheel was freespinning in the air.
Nyack No 9W Groundhog Day Special 2/2 - CANCELLED
Cold and windy. Temperatures are not rising enough. This ride is unfortunately cancelled (AGAIN.) Maybe we will relist it on July 14th. (LOL) Stay warm.
