corrosion around spoke nipples?

Submitted by GYang on Mon, 01/28/2013 - 12:14pm

I have recently found a white crusty deposit around where the spoke nipples attach to the rim on my Mavic Ksyrium SLs.

I had been thinking that it was just residue from water left over from rides and washings that was caught in the threads. But I have now begun to suspect that there is water inside the rim in the channel containing the nipples which is separated from the channel holding the tire and tube.

Just wondering if anyone has an explanation/solution for this and is it anything I should be worried about.

The answer: 381.

Pretty good for a club membership around, I think, 2100.

As for my having bestirred myself to count all the names, this comes from the same skewed mindset that counted all the  stairs on the north side of the GWB. (That was years ago. I don't recall the count but I think it was around 165. Or 156.)

Report on road conditions 9w? GWB walk?

Submitted by DMC on Sun, 01/27/2013 - 9:10am

I have a workout that is much better done outside than in, and it looks like the temps and real feel today are going to be a bit better than predicted. Main concern right now is ice. I was thinking of riding from Grant's Tomb to 9w very carefully, but don't know if the GWB bridge walk is closed.

Or I could drive to 9w and ride then. But has anyone ridden on 9w and seen whether there is a ridable, non-iced area for cyclists right now? I'm asking Sunday morning, Jan. 27.

I have the stuff to ride in cold, but just don't want to hurt myself or my bike by going down on ice: warm long bibs and jacket, megamits that look like tennis rackets, a balaklava, and neoprene socks (FWIW). I'll be fine in terms of cold, maybe hot.
