Arrogance...

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Mon, 08/05/2013 - 5:47pm

I have friends who don't cycle who ask how I can get caught up in the "nonsense" of the Grand Tours (and no, they don't refer to the major stage races as Grand Tours)... I guess they can now ask how I can get caught up in the "nonsense" of the World Series...

June 3, 1993, he's the number 1 pick in all of MLB, Seattle's selection... in 1994 at the age of 18, he's the Mariner's starting shortstop, the first 18 year-old to start since 1978, no other 18 year-old has started since. A once in a generation (or more) player... that's how good he is.

Nerve damage?

Submitted by Slugger on Mon, 08/05/2013 - 5:07pm

This weekend, I did a long ride that included several long miles of extremely broken pavement at the end. My wrists were very fatigued from the endless shocks, but not actually painful. Now, my left hand is having serious problems. It is still not at all painful and not visibly swollen, but it is extremely weak. I can't push with my fingers or thumb at all, I cannot type properly, I can't flick my fingers out (like shaking off water). If I were left-handed, I couldn't write with a pencil. Basically, if it involves pushing or pulling with my fingers or thumb, it's out. When I say I can't, I mean quite literally can not do it - my hand is too weak to move the way it should.

Serotta Going out of Business

Submitted by MLevin on Mon, 08/05/2013 - 1:32pm

All,

I know quite a few members ride Serotta's and it's very sad that one of the better known small builders is going out of business.

Good bikes for rent?

Submitted by APineda on Sat, 08/03/2013 - 5:01pm

A friend of mine is visiting next week and has a couple of days to ride.  Any suggestions for where he can rent a good high-end bike?  CitiBikes are great but I don't think that's what he had in mind!

Any thoughts/recomendations on these two bikes before purchase?

Submitted by cjones on Sat, 08/03/2013 - 12:30pm

Hello all,

I'm thinking of buying a new road bike. At this point i've narrowed it down to the

Specialized Rubaix SL4 Expert Compact

and the

Cannondale Synapse Carbon 3 Ultegra.

I've chosen these two because I have lower back issues.

I understand due to the geometry, they're a mellower ride.

Any suggestions on either one of these... advantages/disadvantages etc.

Thanks much!  Clark
