Twin Lights Ride by BikeNY: Today Last Day to Sign Up Online: Are Any B or C Riders Planning to Go?
Today is the last day to sign up online for this ride. It is $65.00 online and $80.00 on the day.
I've never done the ride and am not sure that I will do it this year, BUT it is always much more fun to ride with others from the NYCC. I know some A Riders are going; I am a C+/B- rider (anywhere up to B16, probably could do B17).
Is anybody else who is more or less my level planning to go? Please let me know, either responding here or to me at [email protected].
Thanks!
Jim
Reflective safety vests
I have reviewed many. Those in the link below work best to reflect light. Plus they can be customize for nycc. Keep riders safe. Do not let them ride with inferior reflective vests like I saw in the ENY event photos.

I have used this vest for the last 8 months, or 4,000 pre-dawn miles. The vest is excellent.

Has anyone ever heard of the above.
I've just been given a track bike that was custom made for the previous owner. It's a lugged Columbus polished stainless steel frame that dates I believe from the seventies.
Small measures
The biggest changes in human history all began a small first step... I sent Herb's link to a friend who teaches high school driver's ed... he thought it was a great idea, and will try to teach it to the kids he has in his class...
I'll bet that I'm not the only club member who is involved in, has kids in, teaches in, or just has connections with, area high schools... and if you think it's not worth it; in 1973 the first thing I learned in driver's ed was to put on my seat belt... this was well before seat belt laws were even a glimmer in a legislator's eye... forty years later, the first thing I do when I get in a car is put my seat belt on...
Three "out-of-bounds" rides
Yeah, things are ALWAYS better by bike ;)
How long should a saddle last?
Hey folks,
I have a Prologo Kappa Pas (came with my Cannondale CAAD10) with about 8,000-10,000 miles on it. I've noticed my rides getting progressively less comfortable, even relatively short rides (40-50 miles). At first I thought the padding in my shorts had worn down but buying new shorts didn't help. I recently switched to tubless tires, which should be much more comfortable yet stil no relief. Process of elimination says it's either my saddle or me. It's easier to blame the saddle vs. ... well, you know what I mean.

Continental 4000S tire failure
I've been riding for almost 50 years and on Continental tires for the last 15 years and have never had a tire fail until a few weeks ago. I was riding up the ramp to the GWB (NJ side) when my front tire expoded. It had light mileage and no damage of any kind. The rim is/was in perfect shape and the tire pressure was between 105-110 psi. The tire is rated to 120.
Tire : Continental 4000S, 23 mm 700C
Rim : Mavic Open Pro
A 2" flap tore away from the kevlar bead causing the inner tube to rupture. Luckily I was going only 5 or 10 mph. A few moments earlier on the downhill before the bridge and I would have likely been seriously injured.
I had to walk the bike across the bridge and to the A train
