garmin 810 or 510?

I rarely ever use a cue so not sure if I need GPS Mapping. What are the practical aplications of the 810/800 that you use that the 510/500 does not offer?

Too dumb to ride a bike. And now too dead, too.

I've always thought the Darwin Awards are apocraphyl. You never know who "awards" them. But I was sent a list today of this  year's supposed winners--further casting doubt on their legitimacy since there is more than a quarter of the year left to be really stupid. Anyhow, here is--or was--the fifth place winner:

"Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor."

Protective equipment for mountain biking?

Submitted by EJacobs on Thu, 09/12/2013 - 1:59pm

Hey all, I'm going to do a little beginner mountain biking this fall. I'm nervous about wrecking.

Does anyone have reccomendations for some basic, not super expensive protective gear? I will be wearing a long sleeve jersey and tights or knickers, and using my normal road helmet and normal road half-finger gloves. What else should I get to be confortable, mobile, and have the best protective bang for my buck?

Knee/elbow pads? (Foam or plastic?) Hip-padded shorts?

Thanks!
