Central Park Medical Unit

Submitted by CWaaser on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 11:04pm

I just thought I would remind everyone that there's a special phone number for medical emergencies in Central Park: 212-585-0911.  If you ride in Central Park, put it in your cell phone at the top of your contacts so you can access it quickly.  This number goes to a 24/7 dispatcher who knows the locations in Central Park.  When the volunteer Central Park Medical Unit is on call (mostly just weekends) that unit can respond within 1-3 minutes.  When they are not on call, the dispatcher can direct another ambulance to the correct location in the park.  If you just call 911, the response time will be much longer because the 911 dispatchers may not be able to direct an ambulance to the correct location within the park.

Your favorite (inexpensive) tubes

Submitted by ERayvid on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 11:04am

I've been lucky enough to go about 5 years without a flat - a personal best if ever there was one! But recently I've had a series of unfortunate events that made up for all those years without making my friends stop while I change out flat. Because of these events, I've gone through my stash of spare tubes and need to restock.

I'm always a little taken aback at the price and like to bargain shop on this aspect. For instance, I had stocked up on spares with the Performance house brand (Forte) last time I purchased - because they were on sale -- and they suited me more than well.

Quick and Early Ride to the Piermont has to move to Saturday....

Submitted by RSchoenbohm on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 9:00am

Sorry, leader has had a conflict come up for Sunday (job related travel) and will need to make this a Saturday (the 18th) ride instead. Apologies! I re-listed and hopefully the ride board will update soon. My bad!

West Side Greenway clear to northern end now?

Submitted by SRodetis on Mon, 01/13/2014 - 10:07pm

Has anyone been on it of late after the rains have washed away most snow and debris?

Is it clear from the entrance at Dyckman to proceed south?

Appreciate any feedback.

numbers... they can be manipulated, but they can not lie... here are a few from 2013:

these are personal (but only attained because of the NYCC!)...

11- number of SIGs that i've been involved in since joining NYCC in 2003

6- years-in-a-row that my mileage exceeded 5,000

these are better, as they are club numbers:

367- number of cue sheet 'A' rides approved

369- number of cue sheet 'B' rides approved

158- number of cue sheet 'C' rides approved

Ready for spring?

Pitchers and catchers in 32 days... SIGs in 47 days!

The February meeting is the most well-attended meeting of the year. Why? It's all about the SIGs, and the STS too! Don't miss it! Mark your calendar today!

Be there, or be square.

I know we have some seasoned racers in this club.  Anyone recognize anybody from this set?

Kudos to new member Steven Liechti

Submitted by SRodetis on Mon, 01/13/2014 - 1:13pm

Hats off to new member Steve Liechti, who on only his 2nd ride with NYCC, kindly took it on is own initiative/kindness/skill to jump first to turn around and go back to help a stranded (dang mechanical!) rider from our Hudson Waterfront group. Steve's also a super fun person, and a great addition to our club (look for him in the SIGs this coming season).

Post op - - Steve and I helped fix the issue, stayed with the rider, helped refix a subsequent issue (ever have one of those...LOL), and navigated to meet up with the group at the planned (yummy one, at that!) pit stop.

It warmed my heart to see non-leaders step up so handily. It does "take a village".

Best to all,

Susan
