The right-hand lane will remain a dedicated vehicle lane for service, enforcement, emergency and other authorized vehicles. We would  appreciate your cooperation  in our efforts to keep the vehicle lane free of cyclists, skaters, pedestrians, and runners.

If you have ever thought about cycling the Blue Ridge Parkway . . . .

Submitted by DSabbarese on Tue, 06/24/2014 - 3:40pm

I just completed a 10-Day tour (travel day, 4 days cycling, rest day, 3 more cycling days, travel day) of the BRP this past Sunday. I toured with Paul Wood of Black Bear Adventures. Paul is a native North Carolinian, a 3-time NC State Road Cycling Champion, a fierce athlete/cyclist with an unabiding passion for the BRP, and an all-around "Good 'ole boy". It was perhaps the finest cycling I have ever done, and I've cycled lotsa places.

How is 9D from Cold Spring north to Beacon?

Is it similar to southbound (i.e., narrow, traffic, sometimes no shoulders, bad pavement)?

Central Park Car free hours?

Submitted by brett@mergeleft... on Mon, 06/23/2014 - 6:28pm

I thought Central Park was car free before 8am?  Have been riding in the park the past two weeks and it seems that 7:15-7:30 it becomes a free for all?  Did they change the hours?

Talcum powder for inner tubes makes them more puncture proof?

Submitted by rider_b75 on Mon, 06/23/2014 - 5:10pm

I am trying to find a balance between quality of the ride and frequency of fixing flats... I like Vittoria tires, recently installed SR tyres:

And Vittoria latex inner tubes :

That brings better ride quality but it’s apparently more puncture proof.

I am wondering if adding talcum powder while installing the above tyres/tubes will reduce the number of flats?

Charging $ for the Newcomer's Ride lunch?!?!

Submitted by BHafkin on Mon, 06/23/2014 - 8:31am

Since when do we charge money for lunch for the Newcomer's Ride? This ride is meant to welcome newcomers to the Club. What kind of welcome is it to charge for lunch? Please rethink this; it seems like the Club is becoming more of a business than a recreational, volunteer-run, cycling Club.
