Henry Hudson Drive, a/k/a River Road

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Thu, 03/03/2016 - 6:01pm

As of today (Thursday), it was completely rideable from south to north (and back again).  Tree was removed along with the police tape (I would not have crossed that).  However, there is still MUCH debris in the way of small to medium rocks, as well as stubby branch chunks, all over, especially on the faster downhill sections, so be cautious!

Dear members,

Rear wheel stolen in Chelsea yesterday afternoon

Submitted by nycgabby on Thu, 03/03/2016 - 10:22am

Someone stole my (not-fancy) rear wheel from the corner of 25th Street and 7th Avenue sometime between 2pm and 6:30 pm yesterday. Yes, it was a quick release, and no, I did not have the wheel locked, so I could definitely have done more to deter this crime. Still, this is the first bike theft I've dealt with on NYC streets in around 10 years; phps that should be considered a good run.

Anyhow, it blows, and putting it out there as a warning re: this location in Chelsea--someone around there has sticky fingers.

How big a putz can a cop be to cyclists? This big.

The first ride of the B-STS is now open

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Wed, 03/02/2016 - 2:15pm

If you've gone through B-SIG and you're looking to join us in building some easy base miles in balmy 45 degree weather (hopefully), come take a look! We're also still looking for volunteers... maybe this is the year you earn a club jersey through incentives points, eh? Visit nycc.org/node/78168 (open only to current registered members)

Open Question regarding SIG Enrollment

Submitted by GVillanueva on Wed, 03/02/2016 - 1:40pm

Last year, I SAW that enrollment into both the A SIGs and B SIGs were down. I don’t know about the C SIG.

I THINK one of the reasons may have been an NYCC policy change started two or three years ago. We now require all enrollees to any of our SIGS to be current members of our club before they can sign up. Previously, we allowed people to sign up and then determine if they liked what we were doing. If they did, we strongly encouraged they join the club after the second ride.

South Side Path CLOSED Saturday, March 5th

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Tue, 03/01/2016 - 7:54pm

Just in time for the A SIG start, as I'm sure many of you were notified (those who are signed up for PA alerts), the NORTH side walk will be open on Saturday, March 5th, due to repairs on the south side.  Cleat covers a must, and patience even more so!

great maintenance ride ...

Submitted by FIVES5 on Mon, 02/29/2016 - 9:39pm

A great ride for all to enjoy and maintain is the Jones Beach bike path. It's about a 19 mile (round trip) ride from Cedar Creek Park out to Tobay Beach and back again. Cirlce the parking lot 2-3 times to push it past 20 and then go again. It's newly paved with awesome scenery. Cruise or ride a pace line ... ride 2 abreast and have a conversation if that's what you need. Hardly any incline other than the 3 bridges you pass over. Depending of the time you head out, it's fairly easy to get to (35 minutes) and I'm from Brooklyn ... so it's ideal for those that live in Queens or Long Island. Just putting it out there for everyone to see and possibly take advantage of.
