Recommendations wanted: Mavic hub service

Submitted by Ken Scher on Sat, 06/04/2016 - 7:23pm

Greetings,

My 2008-vintage Mavic rear hub has suddenly started making horrendous howling noises and noticably dragging on fast descents, scaring me out of several years growth.

Having spent some time on a couple of youtube channels and blogs, some of them very good, I have decided that I am NOT UP FOR diagnosing and fixing whatever is wrong.

Does anybody have experience with this sort of thing; better yet, a recommendation for a Manhattan-based (Harlem, UES, UWS ...) shop that'll fix what's fixable, replace what should be replaced, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Tubeless tires - check your valve!

Submitted by JFeinberg on Fri, 06/03/2016 - 1:29pm

I've been riding on tubeless tires for well over 5 years now.  Recently I've been having a problem in which they've been losing half pressure just sitting overnight.  I tried buying a new tire, but when I installed that it wouldn't even hold pressure for more than a half hour.  I had a brand-new tubeless valve, so I figured I'd try that.  Voila!  The new tire is holding pressure, and I haven't even put any sealant inside yet.  FWIW I'm trying out a new Schalbe Pro One.  I had been using IRC Formula Pro tires.  I'm certainly glad I held on to them, since they're probably just fine.

Seeking an old Bike wheel

Does anybody know where I might be able to pick up a used cheap front wheel for my old Three speed. The size is 26 x 3/8.

Please join us at our next club meeting on June 14th, to hear an important and informative presentation by Paul Levine, a highly respected, master class bike fitter. Paul Levine, owner and founder of Signature Cycles, will be speaking about the key elements of a great bike fit. A personalized, great bike fit, along with the quality of the bike you purchase, is undoubtedly the most important factor in your comfort and performance on your bike. Learn the significant difference and value between fitting a stock bike to you, as opposed to having a bike built specifically for you, based on your measurements, needs and flexibility, etc.
