A fun new contest: Win a genuine, unused, hand-powdered tube. Or a used one.

Gothamist reports and shows  http://gothamist.com/2016/06/24/take_back_the_car_lane.php  a P.O.S. tractor-trailer truck driver driving down the bike lane on Kent Ave. with his 18-wheeler. (It hardly matters that he was also going the wrong way were he on the street.) When confronted by two cyclists, before cutting them off he allowed as how, to quote Gothamist, "I want to f... your mother." He said it twice to compensate for the paucity of his vocabulary as well as his sexuality.

Alternate Garmin support

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Sun, 06/26/2016 - 7:07pm

I have an older model (705) whose battery life has come, sadly, to an end.  Garmin does not support this model anymore, so I can't even have the battery replaced for a cost.  Is there anyone out there in NYCC-land who has a suggestion, other than the obvious one (which is not an option for me now)? Thanks in advance.

Today's riding story. (It's always something....)

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sun, 06/26/2016 - 3:04pm

Before the start of my rides I tell the group, among other things, "You may not, you must not take the right-of-way of any driver or pedestrian, not even to the point of making him/her apprehensive that maybe you're not going to stop." So, coming home, we roll to a stop at a red light on RSD in the 90s and here's a middle-aged, overweight, frumpy looking couple who look hesitant about crossing. But it's their green and so I say, to assure them that we are stopped for them, "It's your green." Whereupon the man angrily screams at us, "It's our light!" And the woman,  supporting him, chimes in and allows as how, "F..k you."

Has anyone every climbed this road?   I'm think of including it a Catskills ride, but was hoping someone has insight/knowledge/experience.   Thank you in advance.

Memorial Contributions for George Arcarola

Submitted by CWaaser on Thu, 06/23/2016 - 6:59pm

The Arcarola family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Kids Ride Club.  However, the KRC itself isn't set up to take those contributions directly.  Ed Fishkin has given us the following information:

"Sadly I'm in Europe and couldn't attend the funeral, but I did hear about the family's wonderful contribution and sent Theresa a card.  Contributions in the form of checks may be made out to Woodhull Medical Center.  In the memo section, donors should write, "Kids Ride Club Account."  They can mail them to the following address:

CRI Answer to Cancer Ride

Submitted by nychef on Mon, 06/20/2016 - 3:05pm

Is anyone doing the Answer to Cancer Ride on 6/25?

I'm planning to ride GWB -> Highland Falls on 6/24 if anyone wants to join me for an easy 60-70 miles. I'll list it as an official ride if people are interested.
