CB7 Transportation Committee Meeting

Agenda Item #4:  The installation of a CitiBike stand on the SW corner of West 87th Street and West End Avenue over the objections of block residents and a request for its immediate removal.

It is expected that many neighborhood residents will show up to object to the station.  If you are able to attend....

Impossible to have more fun than this on a Tuesday evening in NYC

Find our who is going to be the Club’s first ever “Member of the Month”.

At our membership meeting, Connolly’s Restaurant & Bar, 121 W. 45th St. (3rd fl.) (bet. 6th Ave. - B’way) starting at 6:00 PM.

Also, hear Hayes Lord, Senior Transportation Manager at the New York City Department of Transportation  - our guest for the meeting -  discuss what the Department of Transportation is doing to promote cycling as a means of transportation in our city.

And, and, and. . . . I’ve got some other neat surprises in my back pocket I’ve been saving for this meeting.

Did the actress Gloria Swanson really live at the top of Walnut at Woodland?

Submitted by RRosenthal on Mon, 09/12/2016 - 2:45pm

I stop at two or three places on my rides to tell anecdotes or history related to where we are. I ask those on the Alt. ClimBathon: Why would a big-time movie actress have lived in Ft. Lee? Then, when no one knows, ask the group to relate the question to Edison, NJ.

Very likely you have ridden up Walnut in Ft. Lee/Englewood Cliffs. At the top, at Woodland, is a house with the nameplate "Gloria Crest." I've been reading about Gloria Swanson, the movie diva (and mistress of film producer Joe Kennedy, Sr., father of JFK), to confirm she lived there. Answer: yes, indeed she did live there. You'll never see the inside, but look at these pictures of it from this 2012 listing:

ENOUGH !!!

New Yorkers are being killed or injured every day riding their bike on our streets. If it’s not safe for us to ride alone, then we will ride together to demand safe passage for all New Yorkers.

Shout out to Carol Waaser

For a great “C” ride to Bear Mountain.

It was a fantastic day, full of challenges, a smorgasbord of terrain, great views, ice cream!—and excellent company, including co-leader Ellen Jaffe, and all the B riders who graciously tagged along ;)

But my biggest thanks goes to Carol, for making this classic ride accessible to C riders and convincing us we could do it.

Sausage Making

Submitted by nychef on Sat, 09/10/2016 - 5:47am
It's pretty. I've made sausage before in a professional setting. Dedicated and caring people make delicious sausage. On behalf of all the chefs who have put their sweat, tears, and blood (yes, sometimes we get hurt) into sausage making, I would like to say the making is elegant, scientific, and pretty. Please, before you post sayings think about them and the offense they may inadvertently give.

Did I really criticize Israel or Brian? Let's look at this again.

Sam, elsewhere, has graciously called on all of us to put an end to this ENY jersey thing, understanding all I was calling for was, in his word, tranparency...then going farther and saying, I choose to think in response to some of the salvos aimed at me, "Everything else that is appearing here will not help anyone so please just stop. Thank you..." Were I a better person, I would be content with his correct understanding and his saying that.

CT Shoreline Foliage ride?

When does the CT Shoreline Foliage ride (the one starts and finishes at New Haven) usually happen? Sometime in late October?
