You can sign up NOW the these special club rides.   The Newcomers rides include nice routes to Pascask Brook County park where you will be treated to a great lunch.

The Three Club Ride is new.  Come meet members from the Bicycle Touring Club of North Jersey (BTCNJ) and the Westchester Cycle Club.

Both rides have A, B and C routes for all to enjoy.

Finally, I need help with set up for the Newcomers ride.  Please sign up with Brian's Prep Crew to help out.    Thanks again.

Help please: looking for a route from Brooklyn to Somerset,NJ

Submitted by robertfcallagha... on Sat, 05/27/2017 - 7:39am

Hi fellow riders,

greetings from the UK

My son and I am riding down the East Coast from Boston to Orlando in September. So far we are stopping at Providence, New London, Centerport and Brooklyn and will be meeting our USA resident family on the Saturday evening.

On Sunday 9/10 we are looking to get to Somerset NJ via a visit to the 9/11 memorial in the morning.

The roads and bridges through Jersey look daunting and whilst I appreciate it is an adjoining state I wonder whether any of you can recommend a route for the first 10/15 miles

many thanks

Leader's liability and best practices

Didn't want to derail the Long Beach/Point Lookout thread. But it hit one of the area I wasn't too sure of.

Like others, I don't always ride perfectly legally: not dismounting on bridges with signs "Cyclist Dismount" being one of such. Other typical infraction is short stretch on the wrong direction, roads that are technically closed for construction etc.

Does anyone know where to donate cycle clothes. I lost a lot of weight several years ago and have a tub full of clothes that are too large. Thanks

Long Beach/Point Lookout

Hi,

I recently scouted the "Long Beach/Point Lookout" ride (RWGPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/21277820) and noticed both Marine Prkwy Bridge and Atlantic Beach Bridge are closed to cyclists (all cyclists must dismount). Anyone has any suggestion for that?

Thanks,

Sina

BERKSHIRES: Garmin openstreet base map

Submitted by Sina on Wed, 05/24/2017 - 11:25am

Hi,

Anyone has the Garmin basemap for Great Barrington (Berkshires) and its srroundings based on openstreetmaps?

If you have a detailed map for that area on your Garmin, can you send me the "gmapbmap.img" (for Edge 520) or "gmapsupp.img" for (Edge 705, 800, 810, 820, 1000) file via DropBox or something similar?

You can find "gmapbmap.img" or "gmapsupp.img" inside Garmin folder on your Garmin GPS memory/SD card.

Thanks!

Please support Edie's Recovery Fund - former NYC cyclist hit by SUV

Submitted by adamaston on Tue, 05/23/2017 - 9:32am

Hi cycling tribe, Some of you likely know Edie Perkins. She road for Comedy Channel and was an elite runner in local circles. She recently moved to LA for a new job and to focus on training. Heading out on an early morning ride a few weeks ago, she was hit head on by an SUV. The crash destroyed her bike, shattered her helmet and left Edie paralyzed from chest down. Edie is already working with fierce determination to regain mobility, heal and recover. Her friends, family, colleagues and athletic communities are raising money to help her handle the challenges ahead. Edie is an amazing woman, the most naturally gifted athlete I have ever known and is lucky to be alive. Hope you will support her effort: https://www.gofundme.com/edies-recovery-fund

Farmer's Daughter Gravel Grinder - Two Thumbs Up

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 05/22/2017 - 5:33pm

Yesterday was the 3rd or 4th running of the Farmer's Daughter Gravel Grinder up in Chatam (Columbia County), NY.

What a fun, challenging ride! 64 miles. Around 6500 feet of climbing. 45 miles of gravel/dirt roads + a couple of miles of challenging single track trails (including a bunch of trails not open to cyclists the other 364 days of the year).

Beatuiful scenery. Quiet roads. A ton of climbing and descending.

Two rest stops stocked with food and drink. A third ice cream stop. Free food and beer and ice cream at the finish in a city park just outside of town.

Just all around a great atmosphere. And with an entry fee of $60, you could rent a house for the weekend and still come out ahead of the $300 GFNY entry fee.
