It has been completely repaved between Rockleigh Road and Homan Avenue and is spectacular! Now all we need to do is get them to redo it in Cresskill.

Garmin Write alternative?

Submitted by ty111 on Thu, 10/26/2017 - 9:29pm

I've been using Garmin Write (and Garmin communicator plug-in with Safari) to transfer files from Ridewithgps to my Garmin.

Evidently they are, or have been, phasing this plug in out. Is there a Mac browser it still works with...or do I have to do the download and copy/paste to folder routine?

Garmin Write was so easy

Submitted by MGrinthal on Thu, 10/26/2017 - 8:14pm

The Watchung Reservation and Great Swamp ride scheduled for Sunday 10/29 is not going to happen that day, because of a persistent forecast of torrential rain.  I am attempting to reschedule for Saturday 10/28, but am still waiting for NJ Transit approval.  If you were signed up for this ride or on the waitlist, you should have received an email, but if for some reason you haven't, please email me at [email protected].

Update on River Rd below Nyack - Latest news

The following is an announcement from the folks building the Mario Cuomo (AKA new Tappan Zee) Bridge:

River Road Closure
TZC is dismantling the Tappan Zee Bridge to complete the second span of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. The demolition effort requires a complete closure of River Road in South Nyack/Grand View underneath the Tappan Zee Bridge. River Road is scheduled to fully reopen in early November. Project safety personnel are monitoring the closure site around the clock.

"The Ride" looks like an amusing new film, particularly for those entertained by The Tour and its legacy as a Sufferfest.  The film will only be shown there then if they sell enough tickets in advance (that's the model of Demand Films).

Tickets are $18.70 at https://tickets.demand.film/event/2346

Post Accident Advice

Submitted by bcohen11 on Thu, 10/26/2017 - 9:38am

My adult son was hit by a car this morning during his commute in Hoboken.  He's banged up a bit, nothing too serious and will be discharged from the hospital shortly.  He has employer priovided medical insurance so we have no concerns in that area.  Police were on scene and have provided incident report #; driver remained at scene.  What should Jake be doing to protect himself & his property?  His commuter bike is trashed (not expensive at all) but I have concerns if car owner looks to Jake to be responsible for any damage to car and/or driver.  If he had property insurance he would report the incident to them and his ins company would be his advocate (as I did in the summer of 2016 when my bike was trashed when I was hit on Union Tpke).  Your

Thanks to the leaders of the "Off the Beaten Pavement" series

I want to give a shout-out to our leaders of the "Off the Beaten Pavement" series of rides, which have been ongoing most Sundays since September.

A group of (mostly) A-Classic leaders and riders have been pushing themselves on dirt roads, gravel and trails, riding road bikes with fatter tires, cross or gravel bikes.  Over the years they have been doing it, they've developed a lot of know-how and forged new routes outside of our more familiar roads, but often in familiar NYCC riding areas.
