I am planning a self-guided bike trip to Mallorca this coming April 2024. I have looked at a few outfits and there are many different routes.  Many go all over the island- Exodus travel company concentrates only on the Western part. Does anyone have any advise about what would be best- there are three women going and it is for one week. Thanks so much! Laurie Godfrey

Question of curiosity, what's the age demographic of club members? I vaguely remember seeing that in past discussions. But I can't figure out where on the web site I can find that information.

My curiosity is triggered by the mention of "old vs younger" members' preference in online engagement on the (now many) message board threads. 

On the few "all class" rides I've been on lately, I've seen quite a lot of "older" riders (from my personal perspective, older than me). So I'm just very curious as to what percentage of our members falls into what age group.

Since we've shared our decision to bid farewell to this message board, we've heard from several folks here and on Facebook who were interested in understanding the reasoning behind this change. I appreciate the curiosity and engagement, and I want to share this document that sheds light on the thinking and evaluation process that led to this decision.

Dear Members of the Board,

In light of so many posts in favor of retaining the Message Board on our new website, and the compelling arguments for doing so articulated by our members, many of whom are fellow volunteers, I can't imagine I am the only member who would ask the board at this point to engage with the membership and to ask for full transparency.  What are the specific points, both pro and con, that the board considered in reaching its decision?

And what are the numbers?  What is the additional cost to add the MB to the new website?  And what does that represent as a percentage of the original projected cost of the new website? 

Maybe Trek expanded in Manhattan too quickly but they are closing three stores: Upper West Side 96th st, Hells Kitchen 10th Ave & Bowery. Bikes, parts, accessories and apparel will be on sale. I think this will leave them with four locations.

My bike, like me, is old. 

It has a 9-speed (gasp!) Campy "Racing triple" crank set. Now the middle chain ring has worn out, and in need of replacement.

A quick google unearthed a few candidates. But some of those 42t rings were termed "inner" instead of "middle" ring. I understand that to mean the "inner" of a double instead of the middle of a triple.

Does anyone know if the early Campy (mid-90, Veloce) rings has ramps to help shifting down and up from the small ring? If not, I can freely use the double "inner" rings as a middle in a triple. Otherwise, I'd probably have to look specifically for the "middle ring". 

I would ask the Board to reconsider its decision to defunct the NYCC’s Legendary Message Board as we move towards a new website.  It has been the lifeblood of our community for so long, even with the advent of new social media platforms, and has a treasure trove of archived posts. 

I’m not sure if the database of the Message Board will be preserved for members to access or not, but would only caution if deletion of this datebase is being considered, that the history of the club from the time the MB was created is to be found in it. Trashing it is trashing the history of the club.

Further, on so many fronts the message board was and is an important reflection of our membership and their uniqueness and opinions and knowledge.
